Fluid for J-Type Overdrive

Re: Fluid for J-Type Overdrive and NOW DIFF TO

Hi all, I just joined up with this forum, so here is a quick intro, then to the point.

I have been in love with British cars since my preteen years in the late 70's when I read a story about a MG TC. My first car was a 1970 MG Midget that I unfortunately sold. I currently own a 1969 TR6 that I bought in 1991. It has the "A" type O/D and as a side note, I have been running triple Webers on it since 1994.

Now to the point....
Right after I bought "Oliver" in 1991 I had his tranny rebuilt. The O/D was okay and did not require a rebuild. Since then I have driven over 100,000 miles with no tranny or O/D problems other than burning out the solenoid back in 1996.

I have always used a GL4 80/90 weight hypoid gear oil in the trans/overdrive and the differential. This is what the chart on page 33 of my British Leyland Motors Co. issued TR6 & TR250 Driver's Handbook recommends to be used and I can say that it has worked just fine.

100,000 Miles The guy that rebuild your trans must be a genius stud from CA. PMC

I've been really happy with it! I've gone through 3 clutches though, but then I drive like a maniac! Or so I've been told.

Hard not to with the triple Webers you got me addicted to.
