MGB Fluctuating Gauges 68 MGB

The fuel, oil and temperature gauges on my 68 MGB ( American Market ) do not display accurate readings. The needles fluctuate back and forth and sometimes peg to the left. The speedometer and tach are fine. I have checked the connections, incoming voltage, ground and have found no problems. Does anybody have any suggestions?

Thank You

Hi BTN. You posted this is our new members intro forum. That is a forum for introducing yourself. You can still make another post in the New Members Intro forum to tell us about yourself, but since you are asking a specified MG question, I am moving this post to our MG forum where you are more likely to get a response.

Could possibly be a bad ground, but it sounds like the voltage stabilizer is bad. It's located up over your left foot on the fire wall. It controls voltage to those instruments. PJ

:iagree:

Good starting point.

I am having those same problems, kinda, on my 80 B. The original temp guage does not give a read so we hooked up a new one with a different wire and it gives us an estimate reading. The fuel guage does not give us a read at all. Every once in a blue moon it moves but I doubt it was right. My dad and I are going to attempt to build a Solid Voltage Regulator. But the part we just ordered we think was defective, so now we have to wait for them to send us another one (BLAH!) Otherwise, I think dad just might break and buy a new one. $4 compared to $18 is a big difference, so I hope this next one works. Let me know how yours turns out and what you do.

Jennifer
