Floor Pan Replacement by Novice

When you replace the floor pans the new ones come with quite a high lip around the edge and it appears the the old ones I am removing are just flat. Should I remove this lip or incorporate it into the install?

As a novice myself I may get corrected by some of our more knowledgible brothers, but the lip on the replacement floor pieces was on the ones you took out. It is a welding lip. What I am discovering on mine is that the old lips will need to be ground off before the replacements are put in.

Hi Dave,
I did a floor pan replacement on my car. I used the Steelcraft panels as these are BMH certified and fit the best. You will find the lip very helpful to create a nice seam weld around the perimeter of the pans. This seam weld combined with spot welds in the appropriate places along the bottom supports will give you a very sturdy structure. There's one photo of the welded pans on my website and I've got more photos of the process if you're interested.
