Floor jack rebuilding

A good friend just gave me an older floor jack. this thing is a bit of a beast. very heavy. However it doesn't hold pressure at the moment and i would like to rebuild it.
Can anyone help me Id this jack. And possibly tell me where i can find a seal kit?

Just getting started on this this morning- going to start searching and see what i can find....

It is a Hein Warner 1 1/2 ton. Probably from the 60s.Great jack in it's day. If you have a hydrolic repair shop in your area that can fix it for for under $75 bucks,take a chance. Anymore than that,dont bother,as parts might be hard to get.You can buy a real good new jack for about $200.

It doesnt look like a WS,because it doesnt have the quick release pins to remove the handle and yoke assembly in your pics. This jack is an old jack.
 
My simple-minded approach would be to disassemble it and remove all te seals and O-rings, then visit Ace Hardware and NAPA for matching.
 
Yes it appears that it is rather old. I have torn it down and made contact with a gentleman from another forum who specializes in jacks. He can't ID either, but thinks he can find seals. Leave it to me to inherit a white elephant.... On the other side of things it does not appear that anything in there is special. up dated pics at the link above.

For goodness sakes man, buck up, you're on a British Car Forum - it could reasonably be renamed "The White Elephant Forum." It's what we do! Bring white elephants back to life.

The problem with buying a "new" jack, is that most now sold here are made in a place that just doesen't care....It is REALLY hard to find an American made one, and if/when you do, it is gonna be pricey. I ended up w. a Snap on because I REALLY wanted the made in USA quality when I lift up other folks cars. I bought a "cheaper" engine hoist a year ago. Now on the third set of hydraulics, and I am not a happy camper.

Someone gave me an old jack as well. It is a walker from the 60s. I had it rebuilt at a local jack specialist. I think it cost me 25or 30 dollars. That was in 1975 and it still works great.

I'm guessing there ain't a ton O local Jack Specialists in the Yellow Pages these days. (Unless O course they are going to Jack your car or your internet account - and they don't usually advertize)
 
Bottom line, it depends on what you want to use it for on how you go about repairing it or buying new. If it's for your home shop/garage, tear it apart and like Doc said, take the O rings and seals and try to replace them. If it doesn't work your only out a little time and a couple bucks. You don't need an industrial jack for the home work shop! A Harbor Freight floor jack is all you need, just don't buy an aluminum racing jack from them. I have two industrial type jacks and a large HF floor jack that is now 15 years old. It gets used for everything, even lifted one rear wheel on an 8500 lb farm tractor of mine. It still doesn't leak and works fine. Your money, do with it as you wish. JMHO. PJ
