Flagging

I think that people who try to get into racing without doing some flagging or race-support work *first* are doing it all wrong.
If you are considering getting into racing, volunteer to flag (or other trackside jobs) with your local club *before* you start building that race car.
At any rate, not to scare anyone, but here's a flagging video that shows how serious flagging can be!

I agree completely with the above....

I race 6 events per year & flag 6. Flaggers really know what is going on and will be able to give you a great amount of advice. (many have raced also)

Just watch your butt.................Its not for "spectating".

WHERE was that guy's ~HEAD~?!?! He *was* spectating. LUCKY fella. Sure had nothing to do with his awareness.

sheesh.

I heard the story of one flagman telling another -
- "If you don't feel my back against yours -Run!,
because I already am!".
I heard this took place at Laguna Seca, where the flaggers
stand (or did) back-to-back,in certain areas.

We usually stand facing each other.

Sometimes the blue flagger will lightly grip the sleeve of the yellow flagger.

If something happens.....You run the yellow flagger over on the way to safety. (Hopefully punting/pulling them out of danger in the process)

I lost two very close friends to a shunt at the Ledges. In '81 I think. Open-wheel guys. Hateful story.

Glenn Miller died at our first driver's school. (My Bro & I started at the same time)

What a way to be welcomed into the world of racing.

You know, the flaggers had a meeting and decided that Glenn would want the race to go on.......And that's just what we did.

I wanted to figure out what type of people would do that.....

So I started flagging also...
