Hi

does anyone know who can fix a temperature capillary gauge cable that was cut in half ?

The previous owner thought it was electrical I guess and just cut it,

I have the guage head and the "temperature" sending end...

Thanksfor your help

PS....what is in that tube anyway ?

When mine tube snapped, I sent the sensor and the mounting hardware, gauge, and tube to Nisonger. The gauge is now all clean and shiny, the tube was replaced with a new one, and even a new grommet was on the tube to seal up the firewall. I was not fooling around with ether and solder...I have too much to live for.

West Valley Auto Electrics in Reseda can fix it up. The capillary tube is filled with Argon gas IIRC. They will install a new tube and sender, then rebuild and calibrate the head.

Nisonger is the best bet IMO, for a commercial fix. There's a post floating around here on BCF with a DIY fix which sounds do-able. Can't find it ATM, but it involved buying a generic gas expansion gauge from AZ/PepBoys, etc. and dry ice, solder and some time. Can't vouche for the calibration but it seemed straightforward enuff otherwise.

Well, that's about $40 below Moss' <u>retail</u> catalog price....

I seem to remember paying about $110 several years ago. Remember they cost more than regular gauges because it's essentially two gauges in one case.
