Anyone have any usefull tips for fitting a steering wheel boss for a Mota-Lita steering wheel on a BJ7, how do you expand the boss to get it started on the steering column and not damage the splines in the boss, unless i have the wrong one it seems a tight fit and yet i havn't even got a start on the column.
Is there a special way to do this ?

Rob

Hi there,

the boss normally comes on quite easily. I can't remember having any difficulties.

Do you have a fixed or an adjustable steering column?

Mine is an adjustable one and the screws in the back have to be loosend to get it onto the column.

Other than maybe having the wrong boss (adjustable or fix), I can't see any other possibility where the problem might be.

shouldnt be to hard to fit, the boss should be a b7OE and should have that engraved inside, just undo the 2 screws on the boss, try a little lubricant, you shouldnt have to but you could prise the slot open with a screw driver a little to open the spline, then tighten the 2 screws that act as the adjustable part on the spline where you want the wheel.
cheers Andy

Thanks guys

checked with AH spares and it seems i have the boss for an adjustable column when i have a fixed column steering wheel.
Whoops !! mind you this was ordered a few years back before i even had the steering column.
