T-Series Fitting a battery master switch

Hi everyone,

Has anyone had any experience fitting a battery master switch on a '74 GT? (6V batteries) I'm thinking of installing one (the FIA approved on the following page:

and was looking for advice on where to position the switch.

I assume the most common place is behind the (UK) driver seat (on the vertical bulkhead in front/below the rear seat), has anyone installed one here?

Before i go wildly drilling holes, does anyone have any details on exactly where i should drill the access hole for the rear of the switch? I gather it should go on the positive side of the battery (i.e. right behind the driver seat), but just wanted to see if anyone could give rough/exact positions of where they've drilled from the interior to the interior of the battery cage?

Best if the switch is on the opposite side as the drivers seat. That way you can reach it setting down. I switched the ground cable on mine.
 
Same here. I connected the cable off the negative terminal to the switch and the cable out of the switch to ground ie. a bolt thru the battery tray with a serrated washer to cut to good metal. I am assuming a right hand drive still has the ground cable furthest to the left off the left side 6 volt battery's negative terminal so you need a cable with a battery post connector and then a "tab" type terminal, usually used to go onto a starter post, which will reach from the - post to the back of the switch which is positioned fairly low on the vertical bulkhead wall behind the passenger seat in your case. The lower than center placement is needed so the battery will clear the back working mechanism of the switch. Another tabbed end cable then goes from the other switch post to ground so it is typically got 2 tabbed ends.
If you have trouble finding such a cable you can easily have one made up at a good welding supply house as welders use a simple crimper to put such terminals on the ends of arc welding cable(just like battery cable) all the time as they break frequently or they need longer cables for some jobs.
The cable with one battery type terminal and one tab type is easily found at most auto parts/accessory suppliers.
Also never switch the ground off while the car is running. Bad consequences for the alternator!
