Fishing up-date - Tres Gatos

Sunrise tarpon fishing this morning was fantastic with
six tremendous hookups. But my buddy Mateo got the worst
of it.

The old guy (me) boat sided maybe a 60# Silver King.
My buddy Mateo grabbed the leader and boated the fish
to extract to hook for a release.

The big fish tail wacked poor Mateo in the family gems
mightily and brought Mateo to his knees in agony......
with the warrior between his knees!

Yup!!! Poor Mateo got a second direct hit and fell
over in pain. By now the hook was out and we pitched
the very alive tarpon overboard. Mateo had a double rum
and a bit of coca cola.

Next out for some reef fishing; maybe 2 miles offshore.
Switched to 20# line and larger reels. Mateo hooks up
with a small tuna and suddenly Tito's rod bends in half
and Mateo's goes slack.

A monster reef shark takes off like a dragster and quickly
spools out 400 yards of #20 line. The old guy (me) has the
boat at about 15 knots chasing the shark while the drag
screams and more line peels off.

Finally after almost 15 minutes, the shark surges and breaks
the line. In my world of sport fishing - we call this a perfect day.
(except for poor Mateo's pain !!!!

It's easy to tell that's a before shot. Poor Mateo is now permenantly cross-eyed.

Re: Fishing up-date - Tres Gatos

The magnum pi ferraris were the 308/328 series, unless yer talking the more rare 288 gto (similar body style as 308 series).

Highly doubt it Kenny; never imported to North America; frightfully expensive.

Shouldn't you be changing a diaper?

Re: Fishing up-date - Tres Gatos

Ok, Kenny is right. It came to me thismorning that it was a 328. I don't know why my brain blocked it last night.
and there was a TR3 there. very clean. red, with red steel wheels. I can't believe I forgot it. But other than the spitfire, it was the only Triumph in attendance. That's ok, I'll see more next week. LOTS more! hehehehehe
(Man I did a good job of hijacking poor Dales thread diden't I?)

Are you sure they were never imported? Ferrari of America is listed as the Official importer of the 288GTO (as well as every other Ferrari sold in North America). With 272 made, they are rare and there are some in the US. If not officially imported, brought in and jumped through the appropriate hoops before the loopholes were closed. I've seen two in Denver at an all Italian based Car Show. Longitudinal engines with twin IHI turbos and all. There are a few more in California that I have seen as well. They all also carried US EPA and DOT certification stickers. Their values do seem to be holding stong around the half million mark though they were higher for a while.

Of course, there are also the clones that consist of 308's with body kits. But they are actually pretty easy to distinguish when you get up close. Sort of like the difference between real Cobra's vs replica's.

Re: Fishing up-date - Tres Gatos

No idea how they got in, but I am certain that no GTOs were imported legally/officially by Ferrari.

Might be grey market cars that were Federalized by an importer.

Re: Fishing up-date - Tres Gatos

If anything this ones a 308 or a 328 with a body kit. the guy is a bit different, and personally I think the car is in a poor state of repair. It's kind of like a trophy cup that he takes to the local pub to drink his imported wine out of and look down his nose at the commoners, all the while he can't be bothered to clean the cup.
That said, we now return you to the regularly scheduled program.....
It's hard to type with these things in my pits!
Ok Dale... take it away!!! FISH FISH FISH <'///>< <'///><
