Fishing up-date - Tres Gatos
Sunrise tarpon fishing this morning was fantastic with
six tremendous hookups. But my buddy Mateo got the worst
of it.
The old guy (me) boat sided maybe a 60# Silver King.
My buddy Mateo grabbed the leader and boated the fish
to extract to hook for a release.
The big fish tail wacked poor Mateo in the family gems
mightily and brought Mateo to his knees in agony......
with the warrior between his knees!
Yup!!! Poor Mateo got a second direct hit and fell
over in pain. By now the hook was out and we pitched
the very alive tarpon overboard. Mateo had a double rum
and a bit of coca cola.
Next out for some reef fishing; maybe 2 miles offshore.
Switched to 20# line and larger reels. Mateo hooks up
with a small tuna and suddenly Tito's rod bends in half
and Mateo's goes slack.
A monster reef shark takes off like a dragster and quickly
spools out 400 yards of #20 line. The old guy (me) has the
boat at about 15 knots chasing the shark while the drag
screams and more line peels off.
Finally after almost 15 minutes, the shark surges and breaks
the line. In my world of sport fishing - we call this a perfect day.
(except for poor Mateo's pain !!!!
