Cool. I wonder how much it cost to get them out. Sometimes I wonder if the world wasn't watching what would have happened.

The guy running the drill rig that located the miners and drilled the escape shaft works for another division at the company I work for. He was drilling water wells for forward operating bases in Afghanistan and they flew him in to run the rig because he was "the best", I guess they were right. It must have been nice to go from wearing body armor to locating trapped miners. Glad they all made it out.

Very interesting conversation on CBC last night (Canadian NPR). They were interviewing a miner from the company's sister mine and he and all the other miners had just been laid off - seems the mine is now bankrupt. His comment "great that they were rescued but not a happy ending for all"

They were also talking about the rescue as a media event. The president (whose background is as a media baron) controlled every aspect of the story. They controlled the video they controlled the script - to the point of handing out bios of each miner as they came up the shaft. The interviewee was sure they were using a PR firm in the background. Doesn't make the story any less amazing but gives one pause to think how all that happens in a media age.

Brother tell me about it ..... My wife and I were talking about this last night. All I'll say is this: What happens b/w a husband and wife should stay b/w them no matter what possition they may have. Have some respect of the other spouse !!!! I would never want to be famous simple because of the media and I'm married. I don't want my wife under a microscope.

Imagine the poor miner's wife who found out here husband was having an affair....and then having it broadcast AROUND THE WORLD !!!!!

Local radio station here does something like that. they call it "war of the roses"
they call someone under false pretenses saying they won a contest, and can send a bouquet of roses to whomever they would like. meanwhile the "other half" usually a girlfriend, is on the line listening, and when the guy sends the flowers to someone else, WHAMO!
It makes me sick. Ok maybe that person had it coming, but the whole thing just turns my stomach.
Nothing like entertainment at the expense of someones life.

several of the guys in my shop think it's hysterical. I gotta go take a coffee break till it's over.
 
Waay old. But telemarketers are still vulnerable to th' toss.

That's what makes it the best. Nobody has beat it yet. I still think of it from time to time and laught to myself. I couldn't keep a straight face that long.
