First oil change after rebuilt and head torque

Should there be any fien metail residue in the oil at the first oil change. While dropping the sump to fix dipstick oil problem I noticed some fine metal - not much in teh sump, is this normal. the cam lobes look ok and the cylinder bores looked ok from the bottom, i did not undo any bearing to check though.

and finally when torquing the head again, do i crack teh nut first or not?
 
On retorque do not loosen bolts. Send oil sample in for check of metals. Most fine metal can suggest rebuild. Check oil filter for more metal residue.
 
Intresting, I always expect a bit of fine metal on my magnetic drain plug after a rebuild.
 
Fine metal says problems somewhere or else they didn't get the block real clean when they did the machine work, IMO
 
I hope tony is right, I'm really not in teh mood of pulling the negien at the moment. now that I have my dipstick pipe fixed I'll probably put a magnet into teh oil and check if there is new debris.
 
You should have an oil drain bolt with a magnet. Any time a fresh engine is run there will be a bit of metal, just very very fine stuff from the cylinder walls as the rings seat. That's the way it is supose to work. The better the machineing job the fewer the bits of metal but in my opinion it is going to happen and should happen so that the rings seal properly.

Maybe Hap or one of our builders will wade in on this.
