hmmmmm, wonder if I can get $30,000 for my '63 Midget once its finished?

What about the arms, Jack?

MGB shock arms were painted black but the remainder of the shock body was natural.
 
Arms are black.
 
So, I've finally gotten all the red paint off my calipers (wonder how much faster that red paint made the little Midget go?) and cleaned so I can rebuild them & I was looking at the photo of Drew's new front suspension parts:

His are natural because they were probably bead blasted...mine, unfortunately, won't ever look that good unless I break the 2 sides apart & blast...don't think that's a good idea...so, should I go with silver oxide paint?

The caliper paint I use is called metal cast (I think). Looks like metal from a distance. What is silver oxide?
 
Peter refuses to understand that shocks are not painted.

revor - I ended up getting a high heat paint that's specifically for calipers....looks exactly like Drew's calipers in the photo.

Now Jack.... you don't know me well enough to guess at what I refuse. I tell everyone exactly how the shocks we build will come. If they want it different they only need to ask. You should get into the debate with the big Healey guys on this.

I have been in the import car parts business since 1972. Back then I would stop at Armstrong's warehouse and pick up orders of shocks at least twice a week in Piscataway NJ. Every lever shock that I saw was BLACK. The shocks that Armstrong delivered to the MG factory may have been different. I have seen pictures that suggest that. I have also seen pictures that contradict that.

I NEVER said our shocks are correctly painted. I have ONLY said that we will paint them unless told otherwise.

Seriously, I have only seen them unpainted as original and believe after production ones were all painted.

That makes you both correct (walks out door sideways).
 
I don't mind the paint, didn't think much about it really. No complaints from me -- I'm just glad to have them all nice and cleaned up and ready to go back in the car.

Then again, I'm not much of a concourse-correct sort, since the 1275 (actually 1300 and change once Hap is done with it) and disc brakes weren't standard either. I have great appreciation for those folks who strive to keep the details of their cars as they left the factory, but that's not something that is important to me on this car. I find the details interesting, but not a big worry to me.
 
I'm gonna paint my arms silver & leave the bodies black...I've seen photos of Midgets done that way.

Can you paint them Ford blue with some "tasteful" flames?

Peter has rebuilt the shocks for all my cars and they are all black and beautiful. I like the little decals as well.

You can tell it's winter, we spend so much time on shock paint details, and get a little silly to boot. I'm ready for summer! /bcforum/images/%%GRAEMLIN_URL%%/grin.gif /bcforum/images/%%GRAEMLIN_URL%%/grin.gif
 
I'll have you know Miss Agatha got all cleaned up yesterday and today from her road trip and is ready for the first show of spring. No schedule yet.
