My wife and I completed a nearly 300 mile round trip drive yesterday - the first long drive since I got my Bugeye back on the road a few weeks ago. The weather was beautiful, and the trip was almost completely uneventful - only two things fell off the car!
The first was just the chrome tail pipe finisher piece - no big deal. The second occurred when we were about 10 miles from home. I had decided to go I-40 for the last 20 miles, and with my exit in site and about a mile away I heard a clank and clatter from the engine compartment and the distinct sound of something metallic bouncing on the pavement as it passed under the car. I looked back, but couldn't see what it was, and since I'm not a big fan of sitting on the side of the road stationary while big semis whiz by at 80 mph and because whatever it was didn't seem to have affected the running of the car, I kept going until I reached the exit. My wife tried to reassure me by suggesting that I might have simply just run over something that was already on the road.
Anyway, when I stopped and opened the bonnet, I found my front air cleaner inner piece resting between the steering shaft and the body. The wing nuts that had held the cover plate on were resting nicely in little "shelf" area of the inner fender (the piece I now like to affectionately refer to as the "wing nut catcher"), but the cover itself was gone.
All in all, not too big of a sacrifice to the LBC gods for nearly 300 miles of driving fun! /ubbthreads/images/graemlins/smile.gif
