First hill climb

Woo Hoo...took the BE for it's first hill climb today.Up Highway #276 to Caesar's Head. Great fun! Top off and
upper 80s for temps. Engine temp got to 195 on the hard charge up the mountain and had me a little worried but it never got above that and cooled to 175 coming down. Engine ran with nary
a hickup to be found.
This is what I bought this car for and I couldn't be happier.
We even got several thumbs up from the motorcycle guys and tourist along the climb. A family in a Van saw us charging and even pulled over WAY before we caught them and waived us past and gave the thumbs up as we punched the throttle coming by.
All in all a great morning drive.

Great!

Who ran the event?

Are there pictures?

ROFLMAO....It was a solo, unsanctioned, impromptu,
non-competitive, take the wifey along jaunt. I don't
even recall a plaintive squeal from a tire. Closest
thing to competition was some guy in a SS Malibu who
was in front coming down the mountain. HE was squealing
some tires. I'd give him a LONG lead then run him down
with ease. Then I'd back off and do it again. Even he wasn't
really "lettin' it all hang out". Just some good clean, safe
fun.
No pics...just some memories rekindled. :jester:

Sounds like a nice shakeout drive to me...

Does sound like a good run. Can't wait to be able to take one myself some day.

Oh, I see.....it was an *unsanctioned* event!

I have run the Hershey Vintage Hillclimb (below) and attended some events run by the ~Pennsylvania Hillclimb Association~ .

The sanctioned events are fun too!

One day...sigh...it's one of my Mitty dreams. :driving:
There once was a sanctioned hill climb locally at Paris Mountain
but sadly I don't think it is held anymore.
I plan on running it unsanctioned in the near future.
I have say that's one fine looking ride ya got there.

Edit: link to map of the route= https://maps.google.com/maps?t=h&ke....089364,-82.598734&spn=0.049373,0.110207&z=14

It's about a 2000 ft climb about 10 minutes from my house. :cooler:

I believe the hillclimb event at Hershey is no more. I remember reading an article not too long ago saying the hill was closed. Anyone (hopefully) heard anything different?

Yes, correct, it's no more.

They re-started it in 2002 after it had not been run in quite a while.
The Hershey Hotel temporartily stopped it in '08 to do some construction (it's on their property), but then they made the cancellation permenant. Not sure why.

There's still a lot of good hillclimbs here in the eastern US.
Check my PA Hillclimb link in the post above.

Howdy There "Mr. Gundy";

Man, Your making me "Crazy" with all the fun your having in the Up-State.

I`d better get my butt down there ASAP.

What did you leave on the "Barbbie" for me? "SHUSI"??

Regards, Russ

PS: Nial; There was talk about a yr. ago that "Hershey Candy" was going to close down & move to "Canada". The "Locals", (Of Course), went into an Up-Roar. Then it died. The talk has been "Re-Opened" again & maybe thats the reason for closing down the mountain?

PPS: Its a darn shame too! Hershey is/was an "All American" trade mark in this country & even they are "Seriously" thinking about getting out!!

We left nothing on the grill Sunday night. You did miss some fine brauts with grilled onions, baked beans & pasta salad.
Topped off with some "birthday cake" we decorated for the Saturday family reunion that was leftover. And beverages of course. :thirsty:

Hershey was in Canada already - not any more see below. And that was before the meltdown (though I guess no meltdown is good for chocolate) Smith's Falls was a one industry town - really took the wind out of the community's sails

...back to the hill climb, here are a few pix from Hershey in '68
