First Gear Wear

Hello

I finally managed to get the bearing off the mainshaft using a press, and now I am looking at first gear and deciding whether to replace it. The box was dismantled in the first place because first gear was very noisy - the laygear was shot so I have replaced that, question is now should I replace first gear also as these gears are very expensive and my healey budget is shrinking... Please have a looks at the picture and let me know your thoughts...

Thanks

Myles

It's worn through the surface of the teeth, will sound like an old air raid siren, shes toast. Time for new one, especially with laygear being new. cheers

Especially with the gearbox apart -- unless you enjoy taking the trans out and apart. On the other hand, if you're really out of money, just start up in 2nd gear.

Its history , how much is your time worth .....Do it right the first time and its done .
