Firewall Holes

I've been meaning to ask this for a couple of years but I keep forgetting to. There are two holes in the ledge directly below the steering column on the engine side (above the pedals on the inside). There are nuts welded to the inside, so I just fit bolts to them to keep the heat out. They look original. This is on a BJ8. Can anyone enlighten me as to what goes there (I assume on the engine side since the nuts are on the inside).
Thanks.

Re: holes in the fire wall

On my 64 BJ8, I couldn't locate the holes at first, but was able to see the nuts from the driver's side. Someone (the factory???) had covered the holes in the enginge compartment with a putty like material. I can't imagine what they are for, except perhaps they were used for something on earlier models. /ubbthreads/images/graemlins/confused.gif

Re: holes in the fire wall

Could it be that something was fitted in that location on right-hand drive cars? It sounds like something that would be on all body shells, just not used on left-hand drive cars.....is there anything corresponding to the same location on the passenger side? (I don't have a Healey so I can't go and look /ubbthreads/images/graemlins/frown.gif )

Hard to get in to look in my right hooker BJ8 so I took the attached photograph. If this is the bolt you mean it holds the cross shaft brackets for the accelerator linkage

I think Steve has it right. In the same location on the right side of the engine compartment is the windshield washer bottle bracket, held in place by two machine screws. I would bet that on right hand drive BJ8's the windshield washer bottle bracket is attached over those holes on the left side.
