A trip to the Post Office box this morning finally yielded the long promised Hemmings Sports & Exotic article on our beloved TS1LO. I first saw Joe's pride and joy in the spring of 1999 while it was still in many pieces at Joe's garage in Lancaster, Ohio. TS1LO was formally introduced to the world here in Auburn, Indiana at the 2003 TRA National. Wind up Joe talking about TS1 and he can go on for days! Sad that the car now resides in Hawaii but hey it gives a good excuse to go to arguably our prettiest state.

Lou - I don't want to take anything away from the kind words you wrote, but the introduction in Auburn was its second formal introduction. The first occurred in Toronto in the Automobile Pavillion at the Canadian National Exhibition in 1953 just a few weeks after it was "born" in Coventry.

All I can say, is that the fact that the first production TR made still exists is really unbelievable! It doesn't matter where it resides as long as it's in protective hands.

Equally impressive is that TS2, the right-hand drive 2nd "off-tools" show-car counterpart, is still alive and equally beautiful. In fact, if I'm not mistaken, at least four of the first five, and most of the first ten TR2s are extant. Lou, or others, can you verify?

Frank:
The S&E article does have an excellent engine bay shot of TS1. The caption under the photo states that the radiator cap was on the thermostat housing for the first 1201 cars when in fact it was only the first 4 or 5.

Sorry Don, I should have said the official US introduction.

What is amazing about TS1 is that it has the original engine, transmission and differential!
