Finally rebuilding the 8 engine

Ok, after many false starts, delays, and probably good decisions, I am ready to start the rebuid. I took the engine and had the new cam bearings installed and the block cleaned.

So as I get ready to start the I have two concerns immediately, Woody's new cam I got did not come with the break in grease and I do not remember if there was new grease for the crank bearings...

Am I right in beleiving that there is special grease for that?

Here's what you want:

Comp Cam

You need cam lube typically a gray paste and if you have the crank rod and pistons installed the machine shop would use engine assembly lube. If you are doing it then you will need some engine assembly lube and dont forget the plasti-gauge to check tolerances.

AS for engine lube, different from camshaft lube, the Comp Cam suggestion is a good one. Ok back to engine assembly lube, the red stuff they sell in most auto parts stores is horrible, it drians off the parts you put it on, I and many professional engine builders swear by CRC Moly engine assembly lube, it comes in a tooth paste looking tube and you can get it at NAPA stores, it stays where you put it, and will not drain off on the engine stand, just don't put it on cylinder walls, I use 30 wt motor oil for that.

Yep - sorry my post wasn't clear. That was for the cam only.
