I recently put on one of the Sigma digital speedometers and have been running with it this week.

Besides being able to tell just how fast I've been driving...
I also learned that adding up your trips in your head and calculating your fuel economy isn't incredibly accurate. :wall: :jester:

So I filled up this Tuesday and drove all week. With a couple side trips to the grocery store & whatever the trip meter said 137 miles as I pulled in to fill up this afternoon.
That's way more than I would have guessed, due to not really adding up all the little places I go during the week.

It took 4.3 gallons.

The Sigma also records top speed, for the week it was 78mph.

So pretty much driving like a madman and taking a lot of little short trips I'm getting 31.86 mpg. I wonder how good it would be with a rebuilt carb? I wonder how good it would be if I could drive 55? The world may never know... :devilgrin:

That's not too bad. I average about 30 MPG in my A15 Bugeye. On a few occasions, once on a trip to Vegas and another on a trip to Mississippi, I got over 45MPG on several tanks. That was on local & state highways (no interstate) cruising at 60-65MPH. I think my overall average on both trips was about 38 MPG.

This is with the 5-speed and 3.90 gears.....I can't remember what you're running, but close to 32 MPG isn't bad at all! :smile:
 
30 around the local area and 45 on a trip is about as good as it gets.
 
I noticed that after bringing the tires up from about 20lbs (or less) to a tad over 30lbs I was putting in less gas per week.
The ride isn't as soft, but it costs less to drive.
 
I believe I have the original 78 Midget rear end but it's got a Datsun 4 speed and the A15 motor. I wish the PO who installed the thing would have found a 5 speed - but that's the way they crumble!
 
Yeah.....the 5th gear would definitely help you out a little bit. You probably have the 3.90 rear end too.....unless you're '78 has the taller 3.7 gears in it. I'll be looking for a 3.7 diff. when I move to a lower altitude....I *might* be able to coax 50 MPG out of it on a long cruise.

BTW......I also run 30-32 psi in my tires. Mine already has a stiff ride (it's been lowered and has stiffer springs), so a little more harshness is no biggie to me. I would rather have higher fuel economy that a cushier ride. :smile:
