Finally got the engine out

After a a bunch of prep and pulling the transmission I finally ran out of excuses today and pulled the engine.

Clutch and flywheel look brand new, which was a surprise since it means that someone knowingly put this thing back together despite the engine having no oil pressure when hot. Nice, eh?

Looks a little sad without the engine...

The sheetmetal looks good though. I don't see any bodged old repair work that often hides under the apron.
Are you going to repaint the bay whilst it's exposed or do some por15 and spot painting/spraying?
As an aside...hows the steering box for action and leaks...a great time to rebuild while everything is accessable

From the photos, it looks like you have a really good one there. You may be pleasantly surprised when you figure out whats going on. The flywheel definitely looks in great shape.

Were you the cause of the reshaped accelerator rod? The clearance there is very tight, I accidentally adjusted the accelerator rod a little when I pulled the engine in my 3A.

I don't think she has ever taken a serious hit, so mainly it is rust, paint and other repairs. The mast cylinder leaked, so as much as I like the patina she has it needs to be repainted. I'm kind of sold on the color, kind of a Healey metallic blue. Not sure how easy that will be to match, and having a perfect engine bay is going to look funky if the exterior isn't painted. Any ideas for me on that?

The steering box leaks like a sieve, I found a rebuilt replacement one that I'm planning on using.

Unfortunately Randy, the engine has next to zero oil pressure. From what I've pieced together this was an Restoration where the owner passed away, it was sold to a restoration shop who put it together enough to sell. So there are some new bits like the clutch and flywheel, but the in addition to the lack of oil pressure when hot the engine also has poor oil control as evidenced by oily wet spark plugs.

If the replacement engine checks out I'm going to take this one apart out of curiosity and to see how badly worn it actually is.

LOL - it was actually already bent a fair amount, but I think I might have, um, contributed some now that I look at it.

I agree, looking real good there, Tom. I admire your just dive in spirit. I'll be following this particular thread w/ interest. Ya going to Triumphest at the end of the month?

I have to think we are related somehow. Both of use working on B/E and Tr's at the same time. Funny thing is that "Statler" was/is the same color, but he has suffered more in his racing carrier. How are those floors coming? This week I managed to get the doors in primer.

You don't really think that you're stopping with the engine compartment, do you????

It all looks good says the novice. If I had to do start pulling her apart and get it all done right.Awesome car!

Kevin - I pulled the TR6 fenders out. I should have a reasonably solid one, but it's had some work done. Send me a PM when you get a chance.

I'm not going to make to the event - totally bummed. My daughter's 6 year old birthday falls right in the middle of the event and it is important to her that we do something. So bummed not to see everyone, but gotta keep my priorities straight.

I know, I know... But she has such a worn-in (not quite worn out) look to her. I can't imaging behind able to duplicate that with fresh paint. This picture makes her look better than she really is, but I still like the "earned miles" look on her for some reason.

Too funny Paul - I just realized that actually due to your post over on the other forum.

I haven't messed with the floors yet although I did buy the replacement floors and have them on hand. I have some inner rocker rust to deal with and not having the floors in might make it easier. Open for ideas on that guys.

Paul - looks like you are making great progress on your build. The doors and apron look really good. Have you picked a final color yet?

I like the color. Maybe you can have it touched up and get the engine bay repainted for now. Lets see some pics of the inner sill rust.

"Statler" will be BRG & yellow. I'll be doing a reproduction of the TR3s Le Mans car without the larger chassis and the Sabrina engine (unless someone has one laying around for cheap).
