Finally Found It (Original License Plate Number)

When I bought my BT7 in Sept 1963, it was wearing a California black license with yellow letters/numbers. That style was issued in early 1963 if I remember correctly. But when the car was delivered to the original owner in 1960, it would have had yellow plates with black letters/numbers. I’ve always wondered what the original plate number was. Recently I went through some old files and found the car registration from 1962 which had the plate number. Today, I received a replica of the original plate, complete with a 1960 sticker. Not a true stamped plate, but a good replica. I may get stopped since it doesn’t have the current month and year tags and it doesn’t match the number on the registration, but I’ll carry the real plate in the trunk and hope the officer will appreciate the story.

From what I've heard, and seen, the CHP isn't enforcing much of anything these days (but that plate would stand out). CA doesn't even enforce shoplifting laws anymore.

Disclaimer: I'm not being 'political;' that's just the way things are.

California was going to add those plates as personalized, but they didn't get enough orders. They would have been perfect for my '57.
