Final panel fitting & new mirrors

Brosky

Today was the final panel fitting for the fenders, bumpers and hood before they come back off for undercoating and the drain project. More on that later.

The inside of the hood has been painted and clear coated, so the top will be painted assembled on the car.

The new Baby Vitaloni mirror(s) is shown also, prior to painting. We are going to have to weld the old holes shut and the new mirrors will be down a bit lower on the door to look level with the body.

Paul, are you keeping the mirrors silver, or body-colored? Looks great from here!

Body color will be on the silver and the black parts will remain black.

Love to see a body so straight and new. Looks good. I'll bet that
the decale and rubber you'll put under that hood, that red detail on the
decale, will look nice.

I concur. I think they are a bit much.

Paul, tell me you don't have a pink flamingo in your front yard.

Paul,

I don't think the mirror are right for the car. Far too modern. They would look better on a hot rod Honda.

Just my opinion.

I used to have a set of those on my Formula 500 race car. They looked great on it but on a TR6, not so good to my eyes. But just my HO.

The ONLY problem that I see is that you are having the original holes welded up to make new holes for the new mirrors. So not easy turning back to the old (period correct) mirrors.

Looking great Paul! I know you will be glad to get it on the road again.

Re: the mirrors. Were talking a hobby here gents. If Paul wanted to put purple trapizoid shaped mirrors on HIS car so what. That's what makes it a hobby, and a fun hobby at that.

Cheers, Tinkerman

Hi Paul,

...look's real nice.

I became slightly envious of the ease of which you must have had installing and lining it up the bonnet. It must have been tons easier with the front grill and rad shroud out... I had a terrible time putting mine on ( single handed) with the grill and shroud in place - lying on my back with about 20" of extension on the 1/4" drive to get the bolts on the hood from under the car...( hint to others here – put the hood on first – then grill..etc)

On the subject of the shroud – will you be using one of the aluminum ones – they are pretty nice and I believe there is a black one available with a TR6 logo lightly machined in. I also dig the aluminum rad – dead sexy!

What’s the ETA out of the shop?

Stephen.

Yo Paul !!

If you like those mirrors on your already highly
modified TR6, I say "good on ya, mate!"

I am too old to attempt to please others,
so I please myself.

Personally, my wacko brain liked the two tone effect
of the primer. A yellow jacket hornet.

d :yesnod:

Edit: PS- one of my clients told me I really should spring
for the $15,000 and have my car repainted. Imagine?

Paul,
The shop are doing an amazing job on your car.
Go for the mirrors. What I like about TRs in the States is that they are all a little bit individual. In the UK people are too hung up on originality. It is much more interesting to see different colours and accessories, stripes and wheels, etc!!

Totally not trying to steal Pauls thread but you brought it up.
My new tires are thin white wall on one side. Were thin white
wall tires correct on the 1969 TR6? I have the white side pointed
inside for now.

Edit: Hey Nick, maybe that's why my Brit wife fell for me.

Interesting Nick that you mention originality, and the fact that you are sporting a two tone paint scheme on your car. I've seen it done once before like you have it in a publication called "Triumph TR2/3/3A Super Profile" by Bill Piggott. One of the cars (TR3A) is white with red wings...similar to what you did. The book says that they could have been specially ordered, but weren't officially listed. Which brings me to the question if your's came from the factory with the two tone paint. If it didn't come that way, were you aware that it could be specially ordered that way, or did you just do it because you wanted to?

As an interesting side bar, how many TR3's does anyone think left the factory with a two tone paint scheme??

Yes, I'll have mine in Germanium with Olive yellow wings!!

Edit: I'm from the camp that says "It's you car and you can do whatever you want to it." Have fun. That's what it all about.

Guys,

You all know that I'm an absolute purist and stick to all factory replacement parts and colors, so how can you doubt me on the mirrors???

Seriously, I saw them on another TR6, like them and ordered them. I want to be able to see around me and not be bending my neck with that stupid non adjustable chrome original mirror. OK, it adjusts, but via a Phillips head every time? I'm just tired of that.

I'll see how ya'll like them when they're on. What the heck, I've had guys walk up to me at shows and tell me that they love my engine, but hate the yellow, so I'm used to it.

In case anyone hasn't noticed, I pretty much do what I want and live with the ribbing that I get. Life's too short for any other way.
