filter for fuel pump-your thoughts

Is anyone putting a fuel filter between the gas tank and the fuel pump? I seem to remember doing this 20 years ago to prevent crud from the tank getting into the pump. I have a filter by the carbs.

I have my filter between the tank and pump. I'd venture a guess that 75% put it in the engine compartment for ease of checking and changing.
 
Between tank and pump. Cheepo plastic (VW) type. Do not use glass ones under the car :smile:
 
I mount the filter between the tank and pump in all my cars--I think it is easier to check and clean if necessary an inline filter than the filter built into an SU and safer to have this connection in a place where it will not dump onto a hot exhaust header, etc.
 
I have mine in line in the engine compartment just before the first carb. Easy to get at. Used one made for a Triumph from Moss
 
I locate mine in the engine compartment too. It is a billet machined Russel filter with a sintered bronze element which is firmly attached to the shroud brace just ahead of the front carb.--Fwiw--Keoke
 
I use two, a filter between tank and pump and regulator/filter between the pump and carbs. Could be a little overkill but I can usually tell if the fuel is flowing.

Mine's in the engine compartment too...easy to check. Not sure if the pump cares if the fuel is filtered? maybe it's better?

healeyneil, i also installed a "facet" mine has a built in filter. good pump but a bit loud so i installed it as the backup. /bcforum/images/%%GRAEMLIN_URL%%/savewave.gif
