Filling differential

If you have ever filled the differential in your Healey you know how messy a job that CAN be. After trying for several minutes to try and get the bottle of fluid positioned just right with the attached tube inside the diff I found I had to squeeze the bottle repeatedly to get the fluid flowing. Of course then by squeezing too hard, off pops the tube and you get a mouth/face full of diff fluid.
Well folks, when I went back to Autozone to buy another bottle of diff fluid I discovered a fabulous tool called a "Suction Gun." This tool, which resembles a grease gun, comes with a 11 inch clear fill tube that easily and firmly attaches to the gun. Then by merely inserting the tube into the bottle of fluid and pulling out on the plunger you transfer the fluid from the bottle to the gun, then reinsert the tube into the diff and push on the plunger and just that easy the job is done without the big mess. The tool is part number 25706 and only costs $7.99. It can be used to transfer all types of fluids but not gasoline. I have no reason to endorse this product other than to help others.

Great advice. I recently took a bath filing mine, and had to buy a second bottle.

Hi Johnny,
That sounds like the ticket. I bought a plunger attachment that screws onto the gear oil bottle (looks like those liquid soap dispensers). It has a clear tube that fits into the differential. It is mess free, but it takes some work. I like the oil bottles that have the graduated marks so you know when to stop before you are faced with an overflow.

Yeah Greg, I use that same thing.Simple and cheap.Need a good strong finger though huh.---Keoke-- /ubbthreads/images/graemlins/laugh.gif

A long long time ago in a galaxy far, far away, we used to call 90 weight oil used in transmissions and differentials "dope." Knowing of the suction gun, but not knowing what to call it, I visited our local auto parts store (no national chains then except NAPA), and asked for a dope gun. Wrong question. The hoots and laughs still ring in my ears.
