Well, I never saw a place to actually post one, so i figured since i have been flapping my trap i should say who i am...

I have been inflicted with Mgitis since i was a knee high to a knock off. I always wanted an MG as long as i could remember. About the time i turned 13 my crack head neighbor say "hey there is this old MG, the guy wants to sell it real cheap" my father and i go and look, hem and haw, a week goes by, get a call...$300 later i have the remains of a '53 TD (it sadly went away to help finance a marriage, which later became a statistic)

I total my first car at 16 and promptly ask my parents so what do i get now? they said: you got shoes...

I work for most of the summer and find a complete '71 BGT (i missed a free race prepped TR4A by 30 minutes)for $600.00, throw it on the trailer, 3 weekends of work and new brake calipers for the front, and that car has been driven daily for the past 8. (i took it to college, then gave it to my dad, he drove it, then i got it back and it is my daily again)

About a year ago i got a lead on another TD in this guys garage. 30 years, on blocks, not driven...yadadada...the week before christmas it became yard art in my car port (i have already had enough blank check offers on it to put a carcover over it to stop people walking up and trying to buy it).

It is a complete December of '51 LHD TD, missing the seats (has early jag seats or something), original air cleaner, review mirror, windshield wiper set up. It was originally painted Almond Green (i think that is the color, it is a loght metallic green) It also came with a few spares including the remains of a judson supercharger.

IF i can figure out how to post pictures i will...

I am 24 and am horribly diseased and like MG's so, i hope atleast someone out there understands my pain...

Welcome, you came to the right place for sure.

hello, welcome aboard!

You've come to the right place, but if you're looking for a cure I'm afraid we won't be able to help you none!

Obtained my car out of nostalgia and necesity (of transportaion... just so happened this was really affordable). Parents had a MGB when I was a child (pre car interest days), and the acquisition of my B has stirred up rose colored memories... Now that I have one, I plan to get another (LBC) whenever the financial situation will allow it.

Got my '65 B as the first car I ever owned. Still have it! They do grow on you. Kinda like a bad rash. But it feels so good to scratch it!

Doug,

Sounds like you came up the hard (right) way.
Interesting story.

Welcome and sounds like some nice rides. I have a 71 GT, too.

Oh yeah. We understand! Real well!

Welcome!

Welcome to the BBS - as a citizen of MG-dom, I understand your plight....however, over here we'll support you & even agree each time you decide you need another!

i feel like i could be at an AA meeting, though atleast it isn't meeting with AAA

i feel like you truely understand my pain!

so has anyone here ever tried to run a TD as a daily?

yeah. did for a little while back in the 80's. Whenever my TR3 was out of service (my normal driver) I'd use my dad's beat-up TD. It was all local stuff though- no more than 20 miles a day back and forth to work or school. Actually when it got really snowy I'd take the TD because it handled so much better in the snow and had much better ground clearance.

I say go for it. It's a car and it means to be driven. Freeway commuting might kill you though. It just *HURTS* to listen to that little sewing machine motor giving its all above 55mph.

that is the only benefit to my current job. I can commute on back roads as fast as taking the fwy. door slam to door slam is 10 minutes (15 if i get coffee)

Dave Dubois runs a TD as a daily driver and has for many, many years. But he does have a modern backup... a 60-something MGB!

The latest Popular Mechanics (or was it Popular Science?) talks about that... errr... the next issue to hit news stands I guess, roomie has a subscription; I was leafing through the new issue this past weekend. It has a nice little section on "Where are my cool toys"... feature jet packs, flying cars, robot maids, etc.

Back on topic. I'm blessed with short commutes, too. Freeway or surface streets it doesn't really matter. Freeway I go faster but the route is longer. Surface streets I go slower, but the route is shorter. So it comes out to about the same... *unless* "the 134 west" is backed up onto "the 2 south" (on my way to work) or "the 210 west" gets backed up onto "the 2 north" (on my way home); which both happen more often than it should, IMO. So I just stick to the surface streets.

More "stick time" that way anyhow.

I walk outside to the Garage-Mahal!

Tough commute.

PUTZ. /ubbthreads/images/graemlins/jester.gif

I drive 1 mile. Work is on the same road I live on. Recon I could walk if I wanted to... But it's all uphill...

...both ways. /ubbthreads/images/graemlins/rolleyes.gif

Yeah, sometimes I meet my neighbor's dog, Luke, a black & white Collie of some kind as he's using my breezeway for a short cut to the other block....thinks he owns the neighborhood
