Monster 8.9 earthquake hits Japan! I know we have some members in Japan. Hope they are all safe and well.

We have a fellow LBC enthusiast who lives in Tokyo. He is a facebook friend who is also a ff of Mike Lempert. He posted and said he was out walking and it was very scarey but that he and his family are okay. He also posted a photo of what appears to be his office which shows total disarray. Many of us are waiting for additional posts. He also said that there were many more quakes after the big one. I would presume he is talking about aftershocks. That is all he has had to say. His name is Masakazu Hayashi and below is his Healey. We call him Masa. We are indeed a very small world.

I helped a lady at my work sell a Healey 3000 on Ebay and the guy who bought it was the President of the AH Club of Japan, Heroshi Takamori. I'll email him to see how he's doing (he's a member here, just not real active).

We were relieved to get an email from our son who is stationed in Japan, but was away on a mission and is safe at the present time.

Heard on the radio that a coastal train taking people to work has been reported missing, apparently swept out to sea. The way they can sometimes pack trains, could be hundreds.

What was it I heard . The Tsunami hit 5 minutes after the quake?
Also heard, on the radio so don't know if it is true. It was 1000 times stronger than the New Zealand one.

The gent you spoke about is a friend of Masa's. They all belong to the same Austin Healey club. If you hear from him, let us all know.

I find it amazing what a small space this world really is and our friends, although we may never meet, are friends because of this wonderful technology. I never thought in my lifetime that I would be having a conservation with someone in another part of the world and with whom I would be sharing a common interest. It boggles my mind.

Seems even earthquakes can "cut along the dotted line".
I wonder what caused it to split right there. I get that the seam in the pavement is there, but that's just the top 5 or 6 inches. that split is rather deep.

The whole thing is so surreal I have to keep reminding myslef that it's actual footage. The one thing that I find comfort in amongst all this horror is; if there ever was a people that were resilient, it's the Japanese. Just you watch, these folks are gonna come back better and stronger than ever! These guys just don't give up. IMO, the most focused and driven folks on the planet. They don't call it the land of the rising sun for nothing.

I'm not trying to make light of a horrendious situation. The whole thing looks and sounds like the beggining of a Godzilla movie. I've seen this in those films so many times before, I have to keep telling myself this is real. The whole thing is unbelieveable. You expect stuff like this to happen to Thailand, the Phillipines, Indonesia but not Japan.

Funny, "Git 'er Done" was exactly what I was thinking too. Gotta love the Japanese. IMO, the last Honorable culture.

Now saying maybe 10,000 dead. I sure hope their wrong. They said that about Katrina too and wer way off; so I keep hopin'.
