Ferdinand Porsche-RIP

Sad news. But I must confess I didn't realize he was still alive up till now. I've only had one Porsche and that was a nice little 944. Not fast as Porsches go, but a very solid, well built and fun little car.

This is the grandson of Dr. Porsche. He was 76.
He is credited with designing the 911.
His Dad and grandfather worked on the 356.
And his grandfather did the VW Beetle.

After he did the 911, Ferdinand and most other members of the family separated from the Porsche company in the early 70s. He ended up starting "Porsche Design" which did a lot of designs for watches and sunglasses.

944s are decent car and can be bought very cheaply these day. For some reason (that I can't define), I've never been that interested in them

Because they look like an RX7 and have a front engine and rear transaxle...

How's that?

The 924/944 are really well handling cars. Weight distribution is great.

Can't say much for the bits-n-pieces they used for trim and interior tho.

F.A. used to stay with one of our dealership owners when he'd come to the States. Met him once, seemed a nice enough guy. No interaction, just introduction.
