TR4/4A Fender/Wing repair how to do

Hello,

After i have carried out the frame and front end repair I want to make an attempt the repair the fender of the passenger side.

The first picture is at the drivers side. Is this the correct fitting or has there be (more) space between the wing and the grille on this side. As this will be the new reference for the other side

The second picture shows the problem area. The wing is solid but i would like to do something to the front of this wing. The previous owner had made an attempt to repair it with polyester most likely after an accident..

I was thinking about the following. No idea if it is a good idea but like to learn about other ideas.

I was thinking about making a mould by using clay or similar and than mirror it to the wing of the passenger side. Assuming that the previous repair won't tackle the repair completly

Maybe there are some thought of experiences of similar situations to share

Harry

The PO has cut and bent the LHS grill to achieve a reasonably looking gap.
Post pics of the corners with the hood down so that we can see the alignment.
The most likely solution to your RHS problem is to raise the front of the fender...Loosen all the fender bolts and lift the front...[this will also help with your door gap problem].
Depending on the hood/fender alignment.....the easiest solution would be to modify the grill similar to the LHS so as to create a reasonable gap.

I would like to add, if you are to atemp any repairs on the front of any car, the first thing to check is the gap accross the skuttle panel to bonnet in front of the windscreen, this has to be the first part to have a perfect gap, use playing cards to make sure both sides are identicle.
then measure from a fixed point in one rear corner to the opposite front corner, measure (diaganal) both ways, this will tell you if the front end is square, then you can fit the front wings to the bonnet.

i learned how to do body on this site with a lot of help from others. I am not an expert, however I would take the grill out and what ever is in that area that unbolts to get a good idea of what it should look like. Body work is basic common sense in many ways and you personally will do a better job than shops because of the time a quality you will put into the work. I learned how to paint a car here with a lot of help from John plus he made some fine instructions with photos on bodywork. Go for it because it is creative and fun.

To fix a wing on a tr4 you must have it off, and remove the welded brace in the front. Fun fact the replacement
wings were sold MINUS this crucial bit. both will then yield to careful heating and dolling and then can be
rust proofed and re-assembled
