After having interviewed several used fenders for the TR3 resto, I am beginning to think more about a new one and would like some feedback.

I understand that a lot of the new metal on the market doesn't fit particularly well and might be made of used FIAT hoods, but if I am wrong I would like to know about that.

Also, are the better Triumph sheet metal bits made under the Heritage banner as are those available for MGs?

One fellow with whom I have spoken relates that he has had to "cut and splice" a good bit on the new fenders that he has been asked to install. Is that common?

Vendor references would be appreciated.

I've been out of the TR3 business for over 25 years. But I doubt you will find true Heritage body parts. I suspect the dies for the fenders are long gone. Years ago, a company called Tasker Metal Products or something similar to that made aftermarket body parts. Not sure if they are still around.
 
I went through this same decision last year. Although my original fenders were in sad shape, I chose to work on them rather than go through the horror stories I read about with new metal.

The good thing, the fenders unbolt, and there are no hidden areas. You can reach any part of the fenders to patch, weld, grind, and hammer back into shape.

I agree with John. I just don't think the repro fenders are worth the money. They can be made to fit with a bit of work and you can even work the proper contours into them with a lot more work. But you can do that with a rusty fender too. There are still some good used fenders out there but awfully hard to find and usually bring $500 or so. Here's one of my worst cases with $10 worth of sheet metal and a few hours of fun.
