Female Triumph Restorers?

We have about 130 members in our local club, I can't think of any women that do their own restoration work, we do have a lady that regularly drives her Sunbeam Tiger in our speed events, including our high speed airport run/slalom. Thats pretty cool.

Absotively!

Hi There Sharon,

"Welcome" to the BCF from the Pocono Mtns of PA; The new "Crooked Gaming Capitol" in the NE. /bcforum/images/%%GRAEMLIN_URL%%/pukeface.gif

Where in PA are you located? What cond is the TR3 in? Why not post a pic or two. We BCFers love pics of LBCs! Especially, Lady owned and maintained. /bcforum/images/%%GRAEMLIN_URL%%/thumbsup.gif

My wife truly enjoys top down driving as long as the car is clean, polished, running without any hick-ups etc. /bcforum/images/%%GRAEMLIN_URL%%/cool.gif Ask her to assist in any form of maintenance; "NO WAY"! /bcforum/images/%%GRAEMLIN_URL%%/mad.gif

This Buds for You Sharon, /bcforum/images/%%GRAEMLIN_URL%%/cheers.gif

Regards, Russ /bcforum/images/%%GRAEMLIN_URL%%/banana.gif

"Crooked Gaming Capital", good one! /bcforum/images/%%GRAEMLIN_URL%%/lol.gif I'm located between Allentown and Hazleton. I have a couple pics the gallery.

She's in fair condition, considering the neglect she's suffered for the last couple decades. I like to call her a 20 footer. Looks great from 20 feet away. /bcforum/images/%%GRAEMLIN_URL%%/wink.gif

Funny that you mention Jerseygirl. Cool gal, and a friend of mine. Keep your eye open for her annual Jim Thorpe run.

Seems she nor Ian have posted any Baldrick updates for a WHILE now. Build a fire under 'em, Shar!

OK, OK. Sharon pointed me in the direction of this thread. I'll admit it. Baldrick has been neglected this winter. No big projects planned. I would love for Ian to finally finish wiring in my new stereo, speakers, and amp, but I think he overdosed on wiring last winter. I can't get him motivated and I do NOT touch any electrical work myself. /bcforum/images/%%GRAEMLIN_URL%%/frown.gif

We're also on the hunt (casually) for a hub to mount my Nardi steering wheel. Apparently, Nardi no longer offers the hub for the Spit. For three years now, the Nardi has been a decoration on my garage wall.

Next up, when funds allow, will be to get the SU's rebuilt properly. Ian bought the kit and did it last year, but having never done it before, he's not confident and wants a professional to look at them before we install. When the SU's go on, we'll also finally install the Bell header I bought to replace the cracked manifold we discovered during last year's project. /bcforum/images/%%GRAEMLIN_URL%%/rolleyes.gif

As far as Jim Thorpe, I was actually thinking that I need to get that registration open and on the calendar so I can claim my weekend before people's calendars fill up. Maybe I'll work on that today. Definitely would love to see Fagin there this year Dave. Sharon and I had the only Triumphs on the run last year.

Glad ya checked in! We need to hear from the women. Particularly in this thread, to keep things in perspective! /bcforum/images/%%GRAEMLIN_URL%%/thumbsup.gif

Yeah... I'll admit to being somewhat less than enthused about tearing Baldrick's dashboard apart again... but it has to be done... For one thing, I definitely need to get the gauge lights working... /bcforum/images/%%GRAEMLIN_URL%%/frown.gif

That shouldn't be a giant challenge, Ian. All the instrument lights are on the same scheme. Red/white power from the rheostat, grounded thru the instrument bodies or a ground to the brackets. *No* lights would be:

A) no power to the r'stat
B) no power THRU the r'stat
C) no ground on the instrument "string" of black wires
D) no BULBS in th' SOCKETS!

/bcforum/images/%%GRAEMLIN_URL%%/devilgrin.gif

I'm here to tell you that there are indeed bulbs in the sockets, because I replaced all of them last year. There you go. That's the extent of my electrical work. /bcforum/images/%%GRAEMLIN_URL%%/grin.gif

You've already eliminated 25% of the possibilities then, Robyn! And you're 2/3 of the way to the culprit. Now just poke around with a test light a bit to rule out the other two. What's left is the fault cause!

Solid red should go into the 'stat, "hot" with parking lights on (power should originate from the light switch). red/white out from the 'stat, "hot" with the 'stat set at "half way"... All this can be done with a VOM and a long wire instead of "live fire" on the loom.

Shoot, figger this out an' call Ian a wus. /bcforum/images/%%GRAEMLIN_URL%%/jester.gif

Perhaps you forget that the wiring was replaced by one of those cursed "made for a Spitfire" wiring kits... so the underside of the dash now resembles the snake pit from Raiders of the Lost Ark... only more colorful...

Oddly enough, the dash lights are simply tapped into the wiring for the running lights... and the running lights work fine... so either the tap is bad or I have a ground issue... although the gauges operate off the same ground and work fine...

The R-stat was bypassed entirely. Still in the dash to fill the hole, but will be removed when the new dash panels are made.

I feel my blood pressure rising just thinking about all of this... /bcforum/images/%%GRAEMLIN_URL%%/nonod.gif

Mmm, just for clarity, most of the gauges do not need a ground at all. They are grounded through the sender ...

What? Are you saying the wiring diagram that came with the wonderful harness kit I installed is WRONG??? /bcforum/images/%%GRAEMLIN_URL%%/lol.gif

True, though... now that I think about it... With any luck I can start digging into it Sat evening...

The instruments are grounded to give the LIGHTS in 'em their ground leg...

Sorry I got ya "fussed up" Ian. Deep breathly. /bcforum/images/%%GRAEMLIN_URL%%/wink.gif If it's any consolation, I've had many nightmares induced by under-dash wiring. Have a look under the wood in a Rolls or an old E-Type if you get an opportunity. You'll walk away with a much relieved feeling over the Spit.

What Doc said.

The wiring under the dash didn't look scary until I had to go screw it up... now it's a frustrating rats nest and I wish I could reinstall the old harness... or rip the whole thing out and start over... at least for the dash wiring... It's what I get for thinking some vendors have a clue about what they're selling... /bcforum/images/%%GRAEMLIN_URL%%/mad.gif

Work on Baldrick has started... I've started working on a replacement panel to mount the speaker amp in the trunk. Definitely not moving fast enough, though... /bcforum/images/%%GRAEMLIN_URL%%/frown.gif

Anyway... why I resurrected this thread: I was in the local classic/Lotus dealer asking about an 1800E they have on their website... in the back getting serviced is a black TR3... the manager mentioned it is owned by a woman. So they're out there... if not always online...

Are there any ladies out there that have restored a car?

Just curious...

I know Jan in California restored her TR250, I think it was her 2nd Triumph.

There is another lady who is also on the Land Rover list, does all her own work, and "does it on all 4's!" As it were said ...
