Female Triumph Restorers?

Are there any ladies out there that have restored a car? Seems to be a mostly male hobby, doesn't it? I know there are ladies that restore antique furniture, but I guess the restoration of mechanical objects attracts mostly males. I also restore old player pianos and have a 16 ft tall pipe organ in my living room, but never found any ladies doing that either.

Just curious...

Although I did not do it alone....my husband and I work together on our cars. We put hours of time together in our Midget and MGB. I love the time spent breaking it down, cleaning, polishing, reassembling and best of all /bcforum/images/%%GRAEMLIN_URL%%/driving.gif!!

Craig,

Welcome to the Forum. We don't have many ladies here on the Triumph forum. Actually, I don't think that there are any at all, so it may be hard to get an answer from this marque.

Kind of a macho marque!
I think I read once that 95%? of TR6 buyers were male

My wife was one of the 5% back in 74. She says that she'd do it all over again today.

Well it sounds like we have some female car restoration talent! Glad to hear it and wish more ladies would get involved. Would certainly welcome my wife's participation, but hey she has her own hobbies. I bet a lot of wives are thrilled to have some time to themselves while we're out in the garage...

I've been married twice (first tme a bit too young) and both are of high mechanical aptitude. First Wife could tear down and reassemble an MGB gearbox if required. SWMBO (current and LAST wife - "Horsemits" here on the BCF) is quite capable but hasn't been "hands-on" for a while, except for routine maintenance on the daily cars.

'smits even authored a monthly column for our community newspaper for a while: "Auto Motives: A Woman's Guide to a Healthier Car." Maintenance tips-n-techniques from a woman's perspective.
She made a T-shirt design: "Wrench Wench". Black shirt, white design with a large open-end wrench incorporated. [(c)roskart, inc.] She'd wear it to races. Lotsa looks. /bcforum/images/%%GRAEMLIN_URL%%/smirk.gif

I put it all down to early "gender conditioning." Known a number of very capable female wrenches.

Honey Snookums doesn't allow me to touch her truck...

She recently changed the clutch and all I got to do was the heavy lifting...

She is the first female fireman here at Cass.

That means she shovels about 3(U.S.)tons of coal a day into the steam engines to get them up the hill.

Our T-shirt says: "Soot Happens"

'course you don't want to arm wrestle her either...

Not forum-related, but I conversed with a lady here in town last summer who has a TR-6 as a daily driver. I was eyeballing her parked TR-6 when she approached.

Haven't seen many female restorers at local LBC car shows, and can't recall a single one at any of the local Triumph shows.

However, I've seen a handfull of ladies with MGs at shows over the years.

A shame, really. We need all the support we can get, keeps the values up!

Calling all ladies . . . /bcforum/images/%%GRAEMLIN_URL%%/wink.gif

I've worked on American cars for a good part of my life. I was daddy's little helper since he had 3 daughters, no boys. Anyway, my interests now lean to European sports cars thanks to an E21 BMW that I fell in love with. My husband doesn't share my automotive obsessions, but I coerce him into doing the heavier and more complicated work.

Hi Sharon and welcome to the forum. I'm originally from western PA and will be going back to visit my daughter & grandkids next weekend.

Nice to have you here!

My wife is a dab hand at wetsanding and such. First had her doing it in 1982...

She got to do it again (same TR3A) in 2000...

Hi There Sharon,

"Welcome" to the BCF from the Pocono Mtns of PA; The new "Crooked Gaming Capitol" in the NE. /bcforum/images/%%GRAEMLIN_URL%%/pukeface.gif

Where in PA are you located? What cond is the TR3 in? Why not post a pic or two. We BCFers love pics of LBCs! Especially, Lady owned and maintained. /bcforum/images/%%GRAEMLIN_URL%%/thumbsup.gif

My wife truly enjoys top down driving as long as the car is clean, polished, running without any hick-ups etc. /bcforum/images/%%GRAEMLIN_URL%%/cool.gif Ask her to assist in any form of maintenance; "NO WAY"! /bcforum/images/%%GRAEMLIN_URL%%/mad.gif

This Buds for You Sharon, /bcforum/images/%%GRAEMLIN_URL%%/cheers.gif
