Virginia Move - October 2017 029.JPG

When I moved to Virginia I drove through Southern South Dakota,
and as I was driving through Iowa (it was GREEN!) I saw a sign for an offramp
that said "CLEAR LAKE".I kept thinking that I knew that name from somewhere,
& the realized that was where they played their last show.
The Surf Ballroom is still there,& still has musical acts,& yes, there is a lake
there as well.

Remember this and the story of Dion DiMucci.

60 years ago the Big Bopper and I won a coin toss to fly to our next gig with Buddy Holly. When I heard the cost of the flight was $36 -- a whole month's rent for my parents -- I gave my seat to Ritchie Valens. And, unlike everyone else in the room for that coin toss, I lived to tell about it. My friends touched me deeply on many levels, till this day I still miss them. . .
