fauxtina?

Trevor Jessie said:
I painted my Bugeye hotrod black, but it was just a temporary thing while I sorted the mechanicals before starting the body work. Here it is 2 years later, and the car is still flat black. Many said they liked it. However, the reason it is still flat black is because driving the car is soooooo much fun compared to doing bodywork. But it will eventually have a real paint job.

However, fauxtina is not my thing on a car. I mean... rust on a fiberglass car? C'mon!

I'm with you Trevor!! My BE has been in primer for years because I have too much fun driving it to take the time to finish it. I did that once about twenty years ago and have just enjoyed it since! Maybe it's getting to be that time again!

Heehee. It is fun to imagine something that looks like that smokin' the pants off a rice-burner!

It's what's on the inside that counts.

Gesh, I have crushed better than that.

still been thinking about this fauxtina thing. Was talking to a friend recently and expressing my horror at people who hot rod perfectly good cars etc. etc. and he (who has rare and beautiful and accurate cars) said, "there is so many cars out there, people can do what they want." and the more I think about it the more I think he is right. My realization about fauxtina is that it really can work well on a round bumpered car. In the same was as the flat/matte black look really doesn't work on a car from the '90's on or a big spoiler doesn't work on a Midget. I realize that is my own aesthetic judgement, but, generally things need to work within their own era.

Now, recently there was a kijiji listing for a late 50's round fender Bentley that was NASTY! I am still dreaming of winning the lottery and turning it into a rat rod. Probably put an XJ6 drivetrain for provenance but I would chop it, air bag it and might very well faux paint it - though it wouldn't need much. I think driving to a British Car show in a BENT-ley would be a hoot.

Couple of folks down in this neck of the woods drive two real nice Royles Royces to the local shows.
