Faubourg Marigny

Re: Farbourg Marigny

More than likely, I tend to be there every weekend, slave-labor, working on my son's house. Keep you posted.
I know some great poboy shops!

Re: Farbourg Marigny

We're making hotel reservations right now...I'll let you know as plans finalize so we can get together!

Re: Farbourg Marigny

May I suggest Le Richelieu. Two blocks from the Marigny. Quaint, self park on premises, very nice.

Re: Farbourg Marigny

Thanks! Went to their web site - I'll call them tomorrow as I have a couple of questions.

Bill - good thing I called - they're booked except for whatever might be free at the time with no guarantee of beds, etc.!

So, we have reservations in our regular standby Hotel Provincial on Rue Chartres....https://www.hotelprovincial.com

We'll get there 8 Feb

Anybody else wanna explore N'Awlins???

Re: Farbourg Marigny

Good choice. I spent a few nights there in years past, way past. The Provincial used to be owned by a couple of rich guys way back in the 60s, same ones that built the Marriott on Canal. Looks to still be in great shape. I tended bar for them at La Boucherie, long gone but the best bar in N.O. back in the day. Harry's Place (now Harry's Corner) is right up the street from The Provencial, also one of the bars that I worked at, a long, long time ago.......

Feb. 8th. I will put it on my calendar.

Now, ya want to buy a nice shotgun, there is one in the Irish Channel right next door to my son that is fully restored and ready to move in. Sad thing is it is in "The Hood" so the seller is having a hard time moving it. You will be surprised at the prices in Marigny, or maybe you won't.

I'm finding things from $27,000 to $270,000!

The $27,000.00 is for a used FEMA trailer. There are plenty of those.

The $270,000.00 would be the average price of a decent, maybe even restored, large shotgun, which is what everyone lives in. My son just paid $239,000.00 for a restored (on the inside) double shotgun converted into a large single in the Irish Channel. The really nice one next door to him is a hundred grand more. It won't sell because of the the neighborhood. I call it "The Hood".

Looking forward to visiting on the 8th.

You're probably right - I found several listings through the Faubourg Marigny Improvement Association for shotguns, double shotguns & Creole cottages from $27,000-$90,000 that they want restored...it'll probably take another $100,000 or more to properly restore them!

Found one I'm interested in at $145,000 that's ready....real estate agent is looking around for everything in the Marigny up to about $175,000....we'll see!

Oh, we'll be checking in sometime in the afternoon of the 8th - about a 7 hour drive from here - so will be looking for a good meal that night!
