Fat Free Sucks

Now that I am on a almost-fat-free, low carb, no-sugar diet I have found that buying something to eat that is, well, edible, is nye-on impossible. Fat Free tube steaks are even more disgusting than the ingredients in a Nathan's hot dog. I tried pan-frying some Fat Free sausages in a skillet; the resultant residue was a disgusting black slime that looked like something that came out of my crank case. I have lost 30 lbs. It feels like a hundred.

I think what I miss most is a large wedge of Doberge Chocolate Cake with a cold glass of whole milk.

Eventually we'll be able to live several hundred years in perfect health.

Of course, we'll be strapped to tables and fed through tubes ... but it'll all be healthy!

Aw, Bill - you just HAD to mention "Do-Bajh", didn't you?

MAN, those are fanTAStic cakes.

And the closest McKenzies is about.. No, wait - they're defunct now, aren't they? :frown:

Congrats on the 30lb milestone. Do you have a goal, or is this a long-term diet thing?

10 to go. Want to get back down to 185 and hold. Only problem is when people come up and say, "Have you been sick?" One old nosy gall came up at a wedding recently and asked that question, as if she wanted to see me sick. I haven't seen her in a while, so I retorted, "You really are looking old!"

Hubby and I both decided last January to take off the extra poundage. It was getting too hard to get into, out of and under our LBCs. I found an on-line site and we have lost 100 pounds between us. What I really liked was it wasn't "no-fat or low carb" just tweaking and measuring what we eat normally. We didn't even have to give up our whiskey!!!
COngrats on your weight Loss...doesn't it feel great?

Having a heart attack can be a tremendous incentive to change one's dietary habits....trust me.

I know exactly what you mean. My diet, custom-designed and mandated by my cardiologist, is now high fiber, low fat, etc., low red meat, high fish, no pasta (only wheat pasta), etc., etc., etc, etc., etc.

After about 3 years I've pretty much gotten used to it. Sure, I cheat occasionally, but stick to the diet pretty well. The wifey goes along with it to some degree, makes it a lot easier.

But, the only way the cardiologist is going to take away my red wine is to pry my cold, dead fingers off the bottle(s)! :nonono: :nonod:

Being a diabetic can really help you to learn how to change your eating habits also.

We've all heard of the benefits of red wine, and now there's even more evidence - flavonoids:

"Which wines should you consume to reap the most benefits? -
Researchers at the University of California, at Davis tested a variety of wines to determine which types have the highest concentrations of flavonoids. Their results concluded that the flavonoid favorite is Cabernet Sauvignon, followed closely by Petit Syrah and Pinot Noir."

Might want to print the article and slip under your cardiologist's door. Maybe he'll read it while enjoying his noon-time glass of pinot noir!

Roy, you don't need no stinkin website. Just follow my diet: If it tastes good, don't eat it.

Too true.

Yeah, well, you should be on my permanent diet for Type II diabetes! By 'permanent', I mean 'forever'!

Yeah, I know. Now, instead of dreaming about sex, I dream about a baked potato with butter and sour cream.

I've dreamt about a baked potato with butter & chives for about 5 years now!

These diets are a pain, but the alternative is worse. That said, sometimes I cheat, like maybe once a month. For example, our local big box store had USDA prime rib eyes, just riddle with marbled fat. I bought them and cook just one at a time and split it with the wife, add a baked potato with no-fat sour cream (actually tastes great) and all the green stuff you are suppose to eat. The one thing I do stay away from is shell fish as they are loaded with cholesterol. Also gave up mayonnaise but use avocado, cut the eggs to 1 a week. But mainly just cut the protein to one half to one third of what I once ate. Lost 30 lbs on the diet, but the brisk walking I do 3-4 week for 45 or so minutes also had a lot to do with it. Six months into it, cholesterol half of what it was and down to 175 lbs.

Oh, when I cheat, I eat more oatmeal breakfasts, kind of like penance for sinning.

Actually, Ray, that may be a great way to do it! The exercise bit is really the crucial ingredient, IMO.

One egg a week would see me in th' whacko bin. I'm part weasel. :jester:

Roy,
It called SparkPeople

Its basically easy to use and is not some fad "pickle and cream cheese" diet or whatever this weeks weird craze is. To be honest, it was the closest to weight watchers I have seen and best of all its FREE!
