FASPEC British Parts Portland Oregon

Just a bit of historical perspective here. FASPEC was owned by Stan Huntley who vintage raced an unspeakably quick factory bugeye Sebring Sprite. He used to advertise Sprite go-fast parts in the back of Autoweek when it was still in newspaper format. I bought a set of wire wheels from him for my bugeye in the late 70s. Stan also owned a factory LeMans Sprite that was later purchased by Tom Cotter and featured in his "The Cobra in the Barn" book. WOW, Rick thanks for sharing... impressive with you on the other ocean...I bought a number of parts from them in the 80's for my redo. Just do the road so to speak..

Amazingly we managed to find sources for our rebuild parts without there being an internet :jester::jester: Funny to think how much has changed since that time. I was still able to go to a local MG dealer and order Sprite parts that were still hanging around the warehouse. The big event was when they had a selloff of all the "Special Tuning" parts and I picked up some rare stuff like adjustable rear shocks, factory competition front shocks and sway bar and a competition muffler. I ordered a bunch of parts from AH Spares in the UK, but without email and because phone calls were ridiculously expensive we'd communicate by "aeerogrammes", single sheets of paper you could fold up and send by airmail. And of course, no eBay either. I actually think it's easier to restore an LBC now than it was 30 years ago.

Looking at 1980's Porsche 928 pop up lights, they are nice and round like the Bugeye pods.

That's actually what the original Bugeye design looks like. You'd think Porsche stole it from the Healey design. It casn be seem on pg 41 "More Healeys" by Geoffrey Healey

Well this would be mainly for my own entertainment and in hopes that I might learn a thing or two along the way.
 
FASPEC long gone... miss them (as handy for me right here in Portland). British Parts NW is the next best (though I can't buy from them as a retail store - they don't work that way).

I can cut it down. I have promised them to some who has a cut down steel bonnet, but you could use them for a mold or tell me how to make a mold and send that to you.

I can't find the photo now, but I've seen one modified so that the top of the pod is flush with the center panel, but the bottom scoop remains. This leaves an oval opening that has a "cateye" effect. Looks badass. A modern small halogen spot could be placed inside for illumination. I'll post the pic of I can find it.

I would do this in a heartbeat with that one. That or the Walker style.

Rick, I'd pull a quick temporary mold and repair what you have. Get hold of some PVA for a parting agent or try just using some saran wrap if you don't want to go to that much trouble. Should be a piece of cake.

Yes, I can use the good light for making that mold.
Gerard's idea is growing on me though, wish I could see a picture of that.
