Dale- She's pure Maine coon and a small one at that @ about 7 lbs.

There was a breeder about 2 miles from us and I think she ran away from there

Then you cross Rainbow Bridge together....

Ben, so very sorry for your loss. Silverghost quoted Rainbow Bridge so aptly. We lost our 26# Maine Coon (Stink, named after his first litter box experience.) in August of last year and we still mourn his loss. We have a little 7-8# terror who also mourned him. As fate would have it about 4 weeks ago we were at the local pet store and of course and as usual we looked at the pets up for adoption - something we always did. Suddenly out of one of the cages was the face of our beloved Maine Coon, I was so taken aback that I rushed to the fish tank area and the tears came in spite of my best effort to keep a stiff upper lip. Husband came to me and said he was sorry for what I was feeling but that he needed to tell me that this Maine Coon's name was Sampson. Well, Sampson was my husband boyhood Springer Spaniel. Yes Sampson went home with us. He doesn't replace Stink but our little terror is a happier cat and Sampson has found a place in my heart as well as my husband. I tell you this to hopefully give you hope that your cat can never be replaced but some day when you least anticipate it, a new feline/canine friend will come into your life and perhaps take some of that hurt away. The loss of a pet is indeed as traumatic as the loss of a loved one. Only a pet owner can understand this. Our sincere condolences. We are so sorry for the hurt you are feeling.

Finally some Photos for all.
First is the subject of honor of this thread. In his prime, claiming a chair on the porch. my buddy Grommit

Next is his older brother Wallace, claiming our bed.

And here's "HISSSSSS", I mean, Mojo.. taken off guard, during a nap.

Banjo,

Sorry to hear of Grommit's demise. I was just thinking the other day how much we miss our pet's here. I had a dog from my sophomore year at college until Valentines day 2007...nearly 38 years. I had ornaments on my Christmas Tree in my study for each of them again this year. You never do forget them. I just hope they are all getting along until I can join them on the other side.

Thanks for letting us know, and for sharing the photos.

Me, too, Ben. So sorry.

I am totally convinced that dogs and cats are one of nature's most wonderful gifts to us. I've lost a few pets myself, and it's never easy.

Lou-Lou, our 11 year old black cat, sends her deepest regards.

And, may we all unite at Rainbow Bridge (nice post). :yesnod:

Best wishes,

Mark in C'ville

Would Mojo be an Australian Shepherd? He sure look a lot like one.

on dec 12th, (just happens to be frank sinatras birthday) we lost "teddy" my constant companion, ive tried no less then 12 times to post this tragic event but kept braking down as would a 9 year old school girl, he did not recover from the anesthesia administered for a dental xray, i burried him in our back yard in the part he would overlook from his position at our bedroom sliding door and the floor heating vent, im making a granite head stone that will read..."teddy" the soul of a kitten, the heart of a lion"

Might as well share a photo.

Ben/Anthony:
I wanted to say I am so sorry for your losses. I've lost kitties in the past too and know how much it hurts.
I'm always charmed when they choose to let me take care of them. In return I give them the best life I can and take much solace from that.
You all have probably seen the following from an old poem but wanted to add it anyway, it just says so much with so little.
Roy
All things bright and beautiful,
All creatures great and small,
All things wise and wonderful,
The Lord God made them all.

I'm sure you recognize each line is the title of a James Harriott book.

Mojo is a 100% purebred mutt. We got him from the local shelter as a puppy. He was supposed to be a beagle. HAHAHAHAHAHAHA!
The closest thing I can find to what he looks like is an American Foxhound. He looks exactly like the pictures I've seen of that breed. and is about the same size. his head is just below my waist, and he's about 40 some pounds. He has the greatest personality. he's friendly, and very tolerant. once he knows someone is a friend, he's thier friend. I can wrestle with him and my daughter can mess with him all day. He's the first dog I've ever had. I've always been a cat person, but Mojo has won over our family and I'm very glad he's with us.

We had to put beloved cat Alley down yesterday.....it was very sudden and found she had colon cancer. We miss her.

I'm going to see thew doc on Monday I hope my diagnosis is not the same and my wife have the same attitude as you and the cat.

This thread is a good strange thing. I posted my sympathies for banjo and put in a little description of my poor guy, but I did not think I'd be posting again about him. He's been getting progressively worse and his kidneys are shutting down. There's a $200 med but he may last a week or a month but most likely will do nothing. Jeani will take my yourgest to work with her tomorrow (she's a vet tech) to say her goodbyes, and Monday will be the day. As soon as he comes off of IV fluid's, his ability to move around diminishes.

In the 16 years Leo has been on this earth, he's lived though a move from Westchester NY to Bermuda and while there, two hit by cars resulting in two broken hips. Saved. My mom moved back to NY and then gave him to us, here in Long Island, only because of abuse by my soon to be ex Stepfather. At the time, we were in the middle of construction so we kept him in a crate for the week, where he was accidentally burried in debris. Saved. About two years ago, he was found by my neighbor lifeless, dehydrated by potential poisoning , assumed to be by another neighbor that thought he was crapping in his flower bed. Saved andb rought back to life and has continuted to go about "his routine" in and out of doors checking out the property "his domain". You can always count on Leo to jump on your lap when watching TV where he purrs and purrs and purrs. I've never met a cat that purrs as much as Leo does. He will be missed by Jeani, I and the kids, our two dogs Zen and Zaida and our other cat Fred. :-(

My deepest sympathies. Sounds like that cat has used all his "9 lives". I woulden't trade a day with our Grommit. He was a good companion.
Vping, May the memories be fond, and I'll say a prayer for you guys on monday, and one for Don, and one for Shinsen. Looks like a tough month so far.

Thanks Ben. Just got the call and Jeani just took care of it. He's been at the hospital all week and she decided to go in last last night at 12. Stayed with him there and he got worse over night. After her morning work the Doc and her took a look at him and she made the call. It's part of her job to do that stuff and I know it's hard for her to do it, but no better person for Leo to see before the end but his owner.

It must be the moon or something, our Portland daughter emailed that her cat died, in her arms, Saturday afternoon. Same kind of internal organ issues many of you have seen, they probably got "Boo" to last 3 or 4 months longer with meds. Brings back all the feelings of 12 years ago when we lost our "karma kat". I guess the loss of a close animal friend is something we never completely get over. Deepest sympathies to all who have gone through this, and also to those that have not had the pleasure of being that close to an animal...especially a cat.

gray cat, thanks for your kind words and the poem, i still cant get myself to posting pictures of "teddy" , perhaps this will put us in a less somber mood, we adopten this siamese mix friday evening from pet smart in norwalk ct, havnt named him yet but "white lightnin" comes to mind, hes got all the makings of the siamese, owners of these cats will understand when i describe him as "whacky" hes 5 months old and has in one night taken over the house and our harts.
