Farewell furry friend

It's been a crummy week so far. Yesterday we took our cat of 10 years, Grommit, to the vet, and they had to put him down. He had been getting worse with an infection and was in bad shape.
I often said we had mis-named our yellow tiger cat, being that in his prime he weighed in at over 20 pounds, he should have been named Garfield.
He was not otherwise a remarkable cat, but a loved companion nonetheless, and we always enjoyed our guests shocked reactions upon him waddling into the room to greet them.
"Oh my goodness! that's the biggest cat I've ever seen!" to which he'd then come over purring to get some pettin'.
I gave hime a good resting place in the backyard tonight, with a sizable hunk of slate over top of the grave that will see some decorating when the weather gets nicer.
So here's to a happy ten years we had with our family friend Grommit. may we meet again on the other side.
P.S.
We still have his older brother to keep us company.
His name?......
Wallace, of course

Sorry about your loss Ben.

People who say our four legged family members are just "pets" don't know what they are talking about.

Sorry to hear this Ben.

We *do* get attached to our animals, don't we?.....And with good reason.

We put down our long-time cat last year. Mr Pettigrew lived to be 21 which was sort of amazing since he was the runt of the litter, born in an airplane hanger and lived mostly outside.
And I doubt he knew it, but old Petti helped our family get through some very tough times....mostly by just being "there".

Great names for your cats! Of course, we know ~The Car~ W & G drove.

Hang in there!

We've got a 16 year old here and he's 'bout ready to go. Skin & bones, always on Meds and frequent trips to the vets for fluids (luckily Jeani is Vet tech). He comes back home, happy, wanders around keeping us company and he still purrs like a kitten. We've already come to terms with it and are just waiting.

It's always sad when a family pet passes. Sorry about your loss Ben. :-(

Sorry to hear it, Ben. Tough to loose a furry companion.

So sorry for your loss. We recently lost both of our cats within a month of each other and it still is too quiet when I get up each morning and they are not there to greet me.

That just sucks, Ben.

Here's a photo of Buster, He Who Busts Things.

Orange Tabbies only come in one size, and that's big.

He's very handsome, but not very B-R-I-G-H-T, if you know what I M-E-A-N, but I love him just the same.

Sorry to hear of you loss Ben I know how you feel having lost 3 cats and a dog in the last 10 years. I still have 2 cats and a dog that I will miss dearly when they go.

Just this side of heaven is a place called Rainbow Bridge.

When an animal dies that has been especially close to someone here, that pet goes to Rainbow Bridge.
There are meadows and hills for all of our special friends so they can run and play together.
There is plenty of food, water and sunshine, and our friends are warm and comfortable.

All the animals who had been ill and old are restored to health and vigor; those who were hurt or maimed are made whole and strong again, just as we remember them in our dreams of days and times gone by.
The animals are happy and content, except for one small thing; they each miss someone very special to them, who had to be left behind.

They all run and play together, but the day comes when one suddenly stops and looks into the distance. His bright eyes are intent; His eager body quivers. Suddenly he begins to run from the group, flying over the green grass, his legs carrying him faster and faster.

You have been spotted, and when you and your special friend finally meet, you cling together in joyous reunion, never to be parted again. The happy kisses rain upon your face; your hands again caress the beloved head, and you look once more into the trusting eyes of your pet, so long gone from your life but never absent from your heart.

Then you cross Rainbow Bridge together....

I'm so sorry for your loss, Ben. I went through this two years ago and it still hurts sometimes. Hang in there...

Ben,

Sorry to hear that. Can I give you our
Daughter's 13 pound rabbit that we inherited,
to replace your cat?
I could ship it in a plastic bag,if neccesary.

- Doug

thanks all, guys. Nial, I'm extremely jealous of your W&G "teapot". I hope to see it in person at the track someday.
Doug, thanks , but we already have a rabbit. my wife was at a pet store and totally caved on it. now I get to care for it.
I'll see if I can get some pics uploaded. Grommit had to be seen to be appreciated.
I'm doing ok. As I type, Wallace is leaning on me (he really wanted to be in my lap, but he likes to nudge my elbow and it makes it har to type), and our dog Mojo is curled up on the chair next to us.
Of course Wallace's name for Mojo is "HISSSSSSSSSS". So they must be tolerating each other for my sake.

Really sorry to hear of your loss. A member of the family, for sure.

I lost my own little buddy, George the nuclear powered tabby cat, two Christmases ago. Age 20, or over 90 in human terms. He's now at rest in the backyard, under a pine tree, still keeping wild elephants away from our village.

One of his last pictures below.

it was harder than i could have imagined when i needed to assist howard, my cocker of 15 years pass. he was a [censored]. he was giant, bigger than albert my springer who just turned 14. i have to help him up the steps. he can't hear a darn thing. i talk to him all the time. he just gave me a big lick and wants out. ok buddy, lets go.
give wallace a snack, albert is buying, send him the tab.

Same from me, Ben. They're part of the family, and they're our friends.

I lost my Maine Coon a couple of years ago. Had him since he was a little handfull of a kitten. More dog than cat, loved to fetch, always wanted to be around people. He never got to be really "sick", but after 14 years it was just his time. Saying goodbye was hard.

We currently have 2 dogs Rudi - Puggle, Amber - mix, 2 birds Spice - Cockatoo, Tangerine - Lovebird, 1 rabbit - Laramie and Chloe, her daughter Scarlet, Kona, Seraphim and her daughters Mika'el, Raziel, Uriel and Gabriel - all cats (8). They're all rescues except Tangerine. Our most recent rescue cat Cuddles passed in November at age 23. We've had 3 Dobermans - Chism, Sheba and Jax and a Cockerspaniel - Alli before this group, also all rescues. When they "change address" it is never easy. I wouldn't be married to my wife if Chism hadn't approved of me! He was the ring bearer and gave her away at our wedding. Sheba was the flower girl along with our niece. Jax was a special boy and would climb under our bedside table and shake during thunderstorms - imagine a 90lb Doberman shaking so much the table would lift off the floor. Alli was a little dog but left the largest hole when it was her time to go. So big in fact it took 5 cats and a rabbit to fill it!! Isn't it great that we have animals to look after us?! And we think it is the other way around!

Sorry to hear, Ben. They're as dear as any member of family. Always tough to lose 'em. Accept our heartfelt condolences.

When it happens here I try to assuage my sorrow by realizing they would have lived much less time and certainly less well if we hadn't found each-other. Sometimes it helps, sometimes not.

So sad Ben, we know what it's like.
Wendy and I had to put Shadrach "to sleep"
ourselves last month, in the middle of the night.
He died in my arms looking at me.

Mishach says the good Lord will send you a new pal
just like He did with us.

So cheerful is out little (16#) kitten.

One of our family members, Kady the "Man Eater"
Ben- Time for a new family member.
We got this one because she adopted us not too long after the second of two sisters had to be put down after 18 years of a good life.
