I got a terrible call from my sister in Maryland a little while ago. Her husband (my brother-in-law) died today of a massive heart attack. He was not exhibiting any symptoms or complaints and had no history of heart problems. He was mowing the lawn while my sister sat in a lawn chair nearby. All of the sudden he fell over. She dialed 911 on her cell and immediately began CPR, but there was no response. The paramedics continued CPR on the way to the hospital and then in the doctors in the ER, but he never recovered. He was probably dead from the moment he first hit the ground.

Not sure yet what the arrangements will be, but I'll likely be flying out in the next day or so. Things like this sort of put life's little "issues" in perspective sometimes.

Basil...sad news...you're right only positive is hopefully it helps us still here put our priorities back into perspective...
 
I've actually had that occur three times with people I've known/ been related to.
Once with a customer (Ed) at the vintage shop. a really nice guy, a collector, and a sportscar buff. He was driving his Z06 Vette and the final report suggested that he was dead before he hit the bridge abbutment. That was a shock, and was very sad. He was one of those guys you just wanted to hang around.
Andanother one was one of my friends fathers. a survivor of Pearl harbor, and just like your realtive Basil, he was mowing the lawn a few years ago, and they found him tipped over with the mower in a ditch, not a scratch on him.
He was a man I respected. I stood at his coffin and said just to him "Thank you sir, for all you gave."
The third was my cousin who died very suddenly at 32. He was more like my big brother than a cousin. We spent lots of time camping, hiking, playing with electronics and ameture radio and all kinds of other neat stuff.
that was in 1998, and I'm still not really over that.
I hope your family copes as easily as possible. I know It was my family that got me through in 98, and I saw the family and friends with the others I spoke of.
Be there for each other, and keep the faith.
