View from our front deck just now. Normally we can see Rich Mountain above the cabins.

Hey, Tom - where is that? Calderwood? Been on the Dragon, but haven't made it to the dam yet, along with several other spots.

Beautiful. I gotta stop by someday. The VW Bus would look good parked in that shot!

 Bring your banjo!

Or if you don't, not to worry - I have two...

I love Banjo music! It and a steel guitar are my two favorite instruments. One of my favorite pieces, Dueling Banjos! PJ

I first tried playing 3-finger (Scruggs) style in '75, partly because of that song and I was beginning to appreciate bluegrass. Kinda halfway worked at it for several months, gave up, and sold the inexpensive banjo I'd bought. A couple years ago I got the "itch" again, but this time because of my discovery of old-time clawhammer, or frailing style, which is much older than Scruggs style. Generally not as ringing, but a bit softer, and when done right, you can hear both melody and rhythm, and even a bit of percussion. All out of one instrument! Once I got into it, I got hooked. I've reached a couple of plateaus in my practice, but managing to play through them. My one regret is not starting sooner! Doubt I'll ever get to this guy's level:

Anyway, I'm in the right place to be working on it, and am enjoying it!

Oh, and back to the fog. This morning started out clear after a LOT of rain over the last week. But the fog has set in again much heavier than the other day. Sun should burn it off shortly, but it sure is pretty right now!

Thanks for that clip Mickey, didn't know he played the banjo that well. PJ

He plays with a group - the Steep Canyon Rangers, sometimes with Edie Brickell. Fantastic stuff. In this one he plays Bluegrass style, and his comic side is front and center:

And then my preference, clawhammer:

Steve Martin is a Renaissance man; in addition to acting and being an accomplished banjo player he is also an art critic and writer, having written both plays and books.

WOW. That looks so serene. Hot coffee and just thoughts is about all that's needed.

Yep, that's our typical morning fare.

OK, someone has to ask - which runs our first - coffee or thoughts? :D (I know what my answer would be - and I have a small coffee pot! doh!)
