Falcon Exhaust

That's not what I have, but looks like it would fit better than what I have. I will try and find a picture of what I have, but it more closely resembles the stock 2 muffler system for the 4A but has dual tips exiting each muffler. The one you have pictured looks like it would drag a whole lot less over driveway ramps etc.

This is the only listing Ansa lists in their online catalog. Is this what you have?

My original TR4A Ansa's were an exact replacement for the original 2 rear mufflers and I replaced the forward stock TR4A muffler with the reverse Y-pipe from the early TR6.

I still have a pair on the shelf that I bought 25+ years ago for the second TR4A future restoration.

Sounds like you have the original TR4A Ansa's. Did you get these recently and if so where?

I'll see if I can get pictures of the new ones I have on the shelf to compare. Note since they were pretty much replacements for the originals I don't recall any issues with having them drag though.

It's personal taste. I find the Monza exhaust on a Spitfire to sound lousy. Others love it. It's loud, shrill and cheap sounding to my ears. Looks rather ricey to me as well. But again, that's subjective.

What is not particularly subjective is that it is cheaply and poorly made.
 
I agree fox; it is up to personal taste. I can say that I’m impressed with the build quality as well as the look of the Falcon system. Hopefully this weekend will be final install, haven't gotten around to it yet as I've been knee deep in hydraulic issues. (MUST make sure I have the stopping part down)
I am looking forward to the sound, and maybe, just maybe, an extra horse or two.
 
Considering the length of time that my Monza exhaust lasted, my Falcon exhaust has saved me a considerable amount of money.
My Monza lasted only 4-5 years before it rusted through.
 
yes. My Monza required me to drill holes in the pan of the trunk.

I got mine way back when JC Whitney was still selling parts for the British cars. What I found out later was that JC could offer them cheaper was because they omitted the center muffler. My car sounded like it had a severe gastro intestinal problem, and on any trip over an hour you would have a splitting headache.

I do like the look of the four tip exhaust though, so this time through I went to the local custom muffler shop and found the biggest glass pack I could fit under there and still have some ground clearance. Ran a two inch pipe all the way back to where it attached to the Monza Y pipe.

It mellowed out the sound but still has a nice rumble to it. I no longer attract the attention of all the local gendarmes or make the local Harley riders jealous.

If I were to do it over again, I think I would stick with the stock exhaust, or do the twin turbo mufflers that the guys over at NASS figured out.
 
I have the Falcons on my TR6. The biggest point is they can be loud! I would set off car alarms in parking garages. Unrealized by me I had carburetor problems. I was going to do a Good Parts Triple Carb set up and was rebuilding some spare carbs for the conversion and read on Buckeye Triumph, "Note: every reference I have has the float setting as 16 to 17 mm but all have different settings in inches. The correct conversion is 0.630 to 0.670 inches. The Haynes manual lists 16 to 17 mm or 0.725 to 0.787 inches. (Is it any wonder the carbs get screwed up?)" which got me thinking. I have always had a very over rich problem with my running carbs I had rebuilt many years ago. But couldn't be the carbs because I rebuilt them, right? I pulled them and the floats were so far out I could not believe it! I must have used a hammer to set them. I set them to 16-17mm. When I put them back in the exhaust was so much quieter not to mention the more power and did not smell like gas anymore. The sound can change with the timing advance also. I still have a couple throttle setting that give a rattle can like sound. But at least it doesn't sound like a Honda with a phart can stuck on the tail pipe! Or a sheep call "BAAA, Baaa" Or a "I HAVE A CRAPPY RICE BURNING FOUR CYLINDER" announcer system on the back of my Datsun like the kids have today.

Now with the exhaust so quiet I can hear the wind and the radio and a rumble from the differential.

I canceled the Good Parts project and now looking at doing a six throttle body fuel injection set up.
