What's a fair price to pay for a factory hardtop needing a full restoration? Seems to be in decent shape (as far as no dents) but has a fair amount of surface rust (no rot though).

Decent shape but needing full restoration - I've seen them for $500 (and never sold), to $2500 (and sold!). Depends on condition.

I had one for my 1959 TR3 - but never once used it.

I paid 200.00 and restored it. They are nice to have if you drive in winter. There is one problem; if your side curtains are not fit for a hard top, they are most likely sitting too high up or too forward and will not fit into fixed opening of the hard top and the door will not close. The rag top provides a lot of wiggle room for the side curtains whereas the hard top does not.

I see that Macy's Garage can now supply rear windows for the factory hardtops. I'll go look at it tomorrow and see how restorable it is. I think even if I were to pay around $200 I'd still have many times that before I could put it on the car. One earlier post said they had $1000 into theirs.

Thanks for all the responses.....bidding is over $300 already and there is still 6 days left in the online auction so I'm out.

Yep, when you were talking $200, I figured that was going to get blown out of the water. Most easily top $600 when they sell. If you look closely, the ones that don't sell are the ones that insist on "local pickup"...otherwise they would.

It may go over that actually....it's attached to a car

i didn't want/need the car, but at the time it was bidding around $50 and it intrigued me. There is another car in the auction that has an original windshield washer unit but once again I do not want to buy a car to get a washer unit! I've got enough parts hanging around (wings, aprons, doors, transmissions, engines....) where I certainly do not need a junk car in my yard and still expect yo stay married!

As for the hardtop, I'll keep looking...not in a hurry. (I wasn't looking when this came along)

Bill do you have the link to the auction?

I got my rear window made at a plexaglass/plastic manufacturing shop in Tacoma for 75.00. I took them the old one and they cut and bent a new one. All the rubber is available. The rear brackets are easy to make out of angle iron. The front brackets I think are available and I do see them on line for 200.00 +or-. I saved the old window for a template. If you give me your first born, I will mail the template out. And there is one part I am missing on my latest rebuild; the vent pull lid. I have one but it is bent, so Billy you could sell that and recoup some money and be my new best friend.

If that pile was around here I would be all over it for 350.00, but most of it is junk. I am like mildly stupid and enjoy taking old tr3s apart.

Looks like there are 3 other parts cars. I also see a Triumph Roadster intake manifold and solex carb and a window. Some of the parts cars are only at $33

As you can imagine, many bidders wait until the last 5 minutes to bid (at least that was the strategy I was going to use before the bidding went over $300). My wife is very patient with all the parts hanging around, but I'm not sure she'd dig a full car....I really don't have anywhere to hide it where it wouldn't be an eyesore. I tried to convince her to let me build another garage, but that wasn't met with a great deal of enthuiasm.

I've got a guy in Massachusetts that has a project MGA MKII that I'm slowly trying to butter her up to let me get

Millis is just over an hour from me so if there is anything someone can't live without let me know and maybe I can make arrangements to pick it up if you win the bid.
