I have the lower pressure Facet in my time trials Midget.....nice simple pump that has been reliable. It *is* noisey, though.

Have heard these are good, found them at NAPA for only $32.00. Does anyone know the proper one for MGB. Is it the 1.5 to 3.5 or the 2.5 to 4.5 lbs?Confused in NY.

I have been thinking of installing one of these on my Midget, except for the noise. I was told if you mount it with rubber insulators the noise goes down considerably. Don't know if its true, but I will try it when my mechanical fails.

You want the 1.5-3 # for a Midget, and either that or the 2.5+ for the MGB. I would probably start with the lower pressure pump, as these carbs don't like much pressure. If you find it starving--depending on how you drive--, try the next higher one.

You definitely want the lower pressure pump. The higher pressure one will push the needle valves open and flood the engine. You would need a pressure regulator to run the higher one. My SU pump runs right around 2lbs.

Either on of the pumps will work fine. If 4 psi is pushing the needle vlave off the seat, there is something wrong in the carburetors. A new SU fuel pump can be either 2.7 psi or 3.8 psi, depending on the modle SU pump that is purchased. It is really a toss up as to which way to go. 1.5 psi would be very much on the low side for a pump mounted back by the tank, that is the pressure of the low pressure SU pumps that are mounted on the firewall of hte older (T series cars). Mounting a pump with only 1.5 psi in the rear of the car would be a bit on the wimpy side by the time the fuel got to the carburetors. The back up pump that I installed on our MGB is the 2.5 - 4 psi Facet pump and it work fine. If the Midget pump mounts in the engine compartment, then the 1.5 - 3 psi pump would be fine, otherwise, go witht he 2.5 - 4 psi pump. As for the reduction of noise when using the sound mounts, I can say from experience that the Facet pump mouned onteh sound mounts is quieter than the properly mounted SU fuel pump in a MGB.

While I am using my original Lucas pump on my MGB, I've just bought a carter pump for my Elan. Link as follows:

This site raises some criticisms of the facet pump with respect to surging delivery, but it is focused on weber application. They also claim that a pressure regulator is not required. I'm no expert in this area and don't know if the criticisms are valid or even apply to SUs. Just an alternative to put forward for discussion...

They're certainly adamant about the Facet units!

I have one on the MGB with a DCOE Weber and haven't had a problem in 50K+ miles... My Elan has an SU "tick-tock" in the trunk, mounted on rubber bobbins. It too has given good service.

Why not rebuild the SU pump? you can do that for about the cost of a new aftermarket pump?

I'm kind of an original equipment buff (on some things), and the SU fuel pump is what I would use (and do use).
