Facet Fuel Pump

Although I have had many SU fuel pump failures, I recently had what seems like a Facet fuel pump failure. The unit made the usual familiar clicking sound and then stopped. It now makes a low whirring sound, no clicking, no fuel. Anyone else have experience with a Facet pump? It doesn't appear as though they can be serviced or repaired.

Have run the Facet pumps on mini sprints and my J-H. I don't recall ever taking one apart, but I have replaced them when they were suspect. They are usually cheap enough to replace rather than fool with, though they are more expensive now than when I bought them at NAPA 18 or 19 years ago. If yours has an attached filter on the tank side, it would be worth checking. Not much to do beyond that.
 
Yep, cheap enough..just toss it & add another if you don't want to go back stock.
 
Mine worked fine until the battery (positioned nearby) <span style="font-weight: bold">exploded</span> (?!?!) and roasted it in September at NJMP (see below).

Afterwards, it looked like a Crispy Critter but it *still* worked (and it's 10 years old).

I "retired" it anyway, just in case......as stated above, they're cheap enough.

Very reliable (but noisy!), My new racer has one too. Never took one apart.

There are a couple differnt versions of the facet pump last I checked. There are the black plastic bodied versions sold by the mega retailers - and those usually fail right out of the bubble pack. (my experience, anyway)

The older metal box type pumps are still sold by Pierce Manifold for $45-ish. There is also a small Carter (?) cylindrical pump that is sold by NAPA that works well for Webers and SU's (2-4 PSI) but I don't remember the number off the top of my head, but last time around they were $65-ish. Being able to get one at any NAPA store has it's advantages.

Just my thoughts.
 
I have been using the metal box type in a hidden location just beneath the fuel tank. It pushes fuel up to the stock SU pump and through it in the event of an SU failure. On a T Type MG the SU fuel pump is in a very prominent location under the bonnet, so I keep the original pump and rely on the Facet, with wires already in place, in case of the SU's failure. In this particular instance the back-up Facet failed. Fortunately I was just testing the Facet and wasn't stranded!

I just use the stock fuel pump...though I've got one of the new solid state SU's on my '79 MGB.
 
Seems I've got one of everything on cars here. Carter is on the Alfa, Facet in the B, SU's in the Loti. Whatever was handy and/or available when needed. :wink:

All have DCOE Webers tho! :laugh: :devilgrin:
 
& I just made an electric fuel pump for my '77 Corvette's gas tank so I can pump the right pressure of fuel to my TPI engine.....kinda neat, I think.
