I have had an account for years. I recently have been on it a little more, almost entirely because car friends keep showing me cars they have found for sale on Marketplace and I was sucked in.

Some say Marketplace is a better place to buy and sell than Craigslist, but so far I have found the sellers to be every bit as unresponsive and likely to get peeved at you for asking if something is still available (because they sold it two weeks ago, and you should know that even though the ad is still up).

If anything the people selling old cars I am interested seem less knowledgeable and informed, often selling for an elderly relative or something. Search engine is not so good either.

I made the mistake of joining a couple car groups, not near as knowledgeable or useful as anything I get here or on the team.net email lists.

But it is better than Pinterest, which as far as I can tell was primarily designed to clog search results.
 
I have it for family and my Race Group (SCCA). No real problems friends are only a few and I erase anything trying to friend. So, I monitor closely and keep contacts on or below 25. Did post pictures of progress on Jag and Valiant but both projects have been idle for a while. I never post pictures of myself or family.
 
Never really had an interest. And really, most days when I get up, got to work and come home I'm not interested in hearing about, much less would the wider world. I have no extreme in any directions opinions nor a particularly smart mouth way of observing others. So mostly I just don't want the world to see how dull I can be. That way no one will observe, "oh, and when exactly did you pass on??"...
 
I have had an account in the past and mostly used it for groups and family. Currently I have it shut down completely, I may fire it back up and check in during the summer.
 
I have an account and look at it to keep up with family and friends. I usually find something funny on it every day.

If you think FB can be nasty, don't go on Twitter. I read some time ago that an organization was trying to use AI to post on Twitter. After less than a day, the AI became so vile from learning tweets they had to shut it down.

I won't touch it - I also normally use browser extensions that let me limit cross site scripting and (at least on my work computer) an app that warns me when a web browser is initiating a connection to somewhere I havn't approved - which help a lot in stopping them from extrapolating a non-user profile for me.
 
I have a FB account, none of the personal info is correct on purpose. I use it to check the holiday hours of the local breweries and the lunch menu at the art museum cafe.
 
Well at least that sounds like a valid use.
