Have a 1TB SanDisk Extreme external SSD drive connected to my 24” M1 iMac. Was needing more space for photos and videos and decided I needed more speed too.

Did a bit of research and built my own with a Orico 40GB enclosure and a 2TB Samsung 990 Pro SSD. The difference is stunning.

That is way faster. I have a couple Samsung SSDs and have been happy with them. I did see an article about the drive you bought though. You may want to look for a firmware update for it.

Yeah I had read similar. I’ll keep an eye on it. I’m hoping mine has newer firmware and thus I won’t have issues. Time will tell.

Allegedly Samsung has come out with a firmware update months ago. Hoping this one has the update.

Update. After 3.5 months of pretty hard use I've not had a single issue with this SSDF drive. I will probably buy another one just like it (price has come down a bit). It is within about 20-30MB/s of my internal M1 iMac SSD storage write speed. That's pretty amazing for an external drive.
