I agree. Two years is not enough time to buy property, build a track, build grandstand(s) and support/ancillary buildings....let alone jump through all of the political hoops that will fall into their path from Day One.

The promoter's releases have them sounding pretty confident going forward, and add to that they've enlisted the same guy that's designed most of the other new venues.

This is not nascar It is what it is VERY fast Very advanced technology. Very Quick between the ears drivers and very expense. I would not want to hit a speedway wall in one of these or own the one that does. I get the twisty no pass tracks for what they do. Sure it would be fun to see an F1 at speedway for about 5 laps then boring..
there is a style for every one Drag Dirt Speedway Rally thats whats great about racing.

Nothing will equal Monaco in F1 racing for me. With the great speed changes on different parts of the course. If they could design a high speed track with a couple of really slow turns like that it would be exciting. Not chicanes, but really tight radius turns two places on the track to test the brakes too.

I know F1 isn't NASCAR, I'm a Brit. I also know that Monaco isn't the race it used to be, cars are so big and aero is so dirty that nobody, or nearly so, can pass anymore.
IT would be nice to see a track with some elevation change, slow but wide corners, and cleaned up cars that don't leave such a dirty wake that a would-be overtaker cannot get close enough to pass. Tilke's bland windey-windeys won't do it.

I recall Senna in th' wet at Monaco. THAT was a thing to behold. Rain made it the way it shoulda been. He made it remarkable.

Time to watch James Garner and "Grand Prix" again....followed by a twin showing of Steve McQueen's "LeMans" with Paul Newman's "Winning".

These films are racing.

Trivia....did you know that Ken Costello of MGB V8 fame drove one of the BRM's during the filming of "Grand Prix"?!

Yes! I did know that Rick, but did you know that most of the footage in Grand Prix was filmed with Formula B (Formula 2) cars dolled up to look like F1s? (I remember reports of some great pre-season "spy-work" by the movie co. getting the "look" of the F1 cars right). Even so, all three of those films are true racing classics!! My vote for a US venue for F1 would have to go to an existing road course such as VIR, up-graded to meet the demands of F1. Road America would be another great choice! The location being a "central" one is, I think, an important factor.

Rumour has it is set to be bulit SE of Austin. Area is filled with lazy hills and lots of elavation changes edge of hill country I think it going to be a great area to do it. Opertunity to bulid a track for todays F1 cars we have a great oval in TMS lets see if we can get a decent road course year round road course oh can it be F1 GT superbikes oh my!

Certainly does no diminish the fact that it remains a GREAT racing movie!
