3-way title fight, final race of the season.
Should be fantastic sunday afternoon viewing...
Good luck Lewis Hamilton....
1st rookie to win championship?

mechanical problems will do it to you every time

The Ice Man (Kimi) deserves it though!! A simple case of rookie mistakes (plus a mechanical glitch) vs. cool experience and strrong team-work!! Kimi was second only to Moss re: # of wins & podiums without a championship!!

I'd rather put it down to rookie case of nerves. Bungling THE race is no unforgiveable mistake for him, AFAIC. I can't even imagine the number of things he'd be thinking and have to try and block out to be on his best game in ~that~ race...

And to compete at that level I consider "cocky" a prerequisite.

But I'm still disappointed he didn't get thru it center podium.

Kimi started young too, with only a handful of races under his belt before he even got to F1. I would have rather had Schumacher up on the podium looking like he won the biggest prize in history (which he usually did winning 1st, 2nd, or 3rd) than Kimi looking like his dog died...but that's his personality. I'm a Ferrari fan, they won, that's fine by me.

As for Hamilton - it'll be interesting to see how things go for him in the future. Sometimes drivers win the title, or come close, then fade away. Villeneuve comes to mind.

Latest I heard is that Hamilton may yet have the title. Three of the cars ahead of him were found to have illegal fuel issues and may be disqualified, thus giving the title to Hamilton....the jury is still out!!!! I hate to see titles decided off the track and in the board rooms, but that is what we have arrived at in the modern era!! Much as I love Ferarri, there would be a certain poetic justice in light of the "spy scandal" stripping McLaren of all mfg. pts. and Ferarri losing the drivers championship to McLaren on a technicality!!

Hello Pat,

"He lost it on his own, too cocky IMHO",

I think that's rather unfair as he lost 40 seconds with a car stuck in neutral (Motor racing, i know but hardly due to cockiness?). If that happened he would have been champion, despite the 'off' early on in the race. Also, somehow, the team had him do one extra pit stop for no apparent good reason.

I've watched him all season and been amazed at his achievements in his first F1 year; and being cocky does not come over in all his interviews in any way.

Alec

Alec, I agree with you regarding his achievements, maybe I wanted to see an overnight Senna, Prost, Lauder (hey what the heck Fangio) etc. and got too excited.

Regarding the mechanical failure, maybe he screwed up the electronics in the pod and had to go to a back up system from his un-needed adjacent detour.

Mike, I heard that today (regarding illegal fuel) and I am curious, but will they make an overturn when McLaren has been a thorn for them for the later part of the season?

This should be very, very interesting. Congrats to the Iceman!!!

Pat

I don't see how McLaren was thorny to them. They got caught with their "hands in the cookie jar", paid an immense fine and lost all mfg. points. That makes them "square" at this juncture...I mean they weren't banned from future races after their transgression, so if someone else was caught cheating and it helps them salvage a "bad" season...why not!! AND, the kid deserves it just on the merits of a season of spectacular performance!

Mike

A steward in the garage for "fairness". ahhmmmm
