EZ router setup...

Ya gotta out "G" th' "G". I use Class-C LAN IP addresses and reconfig the "router" thru its GUI with a Cat-5 cable to be compatible with the rest of the LAN on its "green" and wireless side. Rename the SSID and workgroup or domain, set up WEP. Clients HATE me but I know it's semi-secure when I leave the pitch.

I've got cat-5 and cat-6 cables here in the house - which one is better?

No difference in your circumstance. Not even an issue yet!

Our Linksys Wireless-G router
burned up this morning.

Our entire house is wireless plus
the college girl next door uses
our signal because her a-hole father
will not permit the internet in his house.
The Linksys is operational 24/7. Two years
of non-stop from a $69 router use is
pretty darn good...................

Heck, I couldn't 15 minutes continuous drive
time from the Crypt Car after spending $32K LOL
.....................................

As soon as CompUSA opened, we bought an
identical Linksys router replacement, popped
the install CD into our primary computer
and in under 15 minutes all the computers in
the house were up and running and internet
connected.

Totally automatic now-a-days (We have cable,
so maybe it is more difficult with copper
connections?)

No, but the default settings are "less than" secure. Business LANs get encryption, passwords, MAC addy confirmation... not stuff a "home" connection needs concern over, generally.
